ted-movie-poster-46e3b.jpg

(GRADE = A) Seth Mcfarlane is a damn fool for this one. "Ted" is the directorial debut of the creator of Family Guy and it was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a minute. The movie is about a guy who grows up with a real teddy bear and how they deal with their problems and friendship. At it's core it's a romantic comedy but it's kinda of a Black Comedy with the type of humor. 1st props to Seth for making Marky Mark likable.

I think he's a decent actor but He always comes off mad and upset in his roles but this film he really was way more down to earth. Ted was just funny as hell, his jokes, comments. He was so f*cked up and the 80's jokes and music was perfect. The part when him and Mark fought had me rolling at his expressions. The effects were great the Teddy really looked real. It worked and if Seth is smart he would make that ish a Sitcom cause it would be a hit show. Overall I enjoyed it and recommend it. Anyone who ever had a teddy bear as a child will relate.

The Devil's Double (A-)

Watched this one yesterday. Intriguing look at the life of a man who served as Uday Hussein's body double. He even gave speeches and did tv appearances pretending to be Uday. Some violent scenes that are hard to watch but great film overall, especially when it gives you some insight into the motives behind his cruel behavior. Dominic Cooper is incredible playing dual roles. Highly recommended.

dredd-poster-thumb.jpg

DREDD (GRADE=C - ) Way back in the day in 95' this 15 year of went and watched Sly Stallone's "Judge Dredd". Let's just say this movie was the beginning of the downfall for his career. But even back then I enjoyed it. The film would do decent at the box office but fans of the comic felt the movie didn't live up. Fast Forward 17 years later and we get that remake. Dredd is better than the Stallone one mostly cause it's more violent and there aren't to many corny jokes.

With all that said it's still an average movie and it completely copies "The Raid Redemption" but it's not as good. Karl Urban did OK in the title role but again the plot is not good and the story doesn't really go anywhere once they are in the compound. Also the female villain was weak. She really didn't do much and you weren't intimidated by her even though they tried to make her scary with a scar. Overall it's a rental, I'm not shocked it flopped at the box office. Stallone sold the last one, this one didn't have much to sell it other than "It's not that version of Dredd".

Silver Linings Playbook....good flick the actors really made this movie they played their characters very well Robert Deniro's character was great and so was Chris Tuckers,Honestly he needs to be doing more movies I don't see why he doesn't...so Jennifer Lawrence is fine as hell..and her character was excellent Bradley Cooper did his thing too. Just an already good Romantic Comedy movie with Football mixed in it I enjoyed it.

Ben-Affleck-as-Tony-Mende-008.jpg

ARGO (GRADE = B+) Ben Affleck is back behind the Director Chair for his 3rd film. He dropped solid films "Gone Baby Gone and The Town". "ARGO" is based on the true story of the escape of hostages in Iran during the Iranian Hostage Crisis that ended costing Carter his Presidency. Ben plays a CIA agent who comes up with an undercover scheme to get hostages out. It was a movie within a movie but it was very suspenseful.

I thought Ben played his part well and the cast was very good. The movie was very suspense and it showed how violent it was at that time. Ben did a very well directing and the movie did win Best Director and Picture at the Golden Globes. I don't think it was the best Picture but I understand it getting the votes. It's the 3rd solid Film back to back to back for Ben and he's erasing all the acting bombs in the 2000's with a great directing career.

(GRADE = C -) Oliver Stone returns to Crime with "Savages". It's an all star cast but sadly that couldn't save the movie. It's basically a love story between two friends and one girl. They run a successful marijana business and share the girl. But when the Mexican Drug Cartel wants a piece, it takes them both down a dark path. It started out pretty good but went downhill from there. The ending was like WTF. After "John Carter and Battleship", this is Taylor's 3rd average movie in 1 year. This is no "Scarface" which Oliver Stone wrote long ago. But a watered down hollywood crime story.

(GRADE = C - ) RZA of the Legendary Wu Tang Clan makes his directorial debut in this Martial Arts film. It has a solid cast including Russell Crowe and Lucy Lu. Sadly the movie wasn't that good. It's a little all over the place. It's clearly a homage film to past martial arts films as Wu Tang loves to sample old movies. The pacing was good but it really jumped around and the story is disjointed. RZA said his 1st cut was 4 hours and he wanted to split it into two films. It's clear stuff was left out that could of made the flow better. I don't knock the hustle and it's it's his 1st movie so hopefully he improves as he goes along. But for his 1st time up to bat he did OK. Also the fighting could of been better. Overall underwhelming but decent.

Seven Psychopaths that movie was funny and dope as fuck for real.

7psychopaths.jpg

(GRADE = B+) "Seven Psychopaths" is a Black Comedy film staring Colin Farrel, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell. It's the story of a screenwriter who's going through writers block and ends up getting inspiration from a series of crazy events. He's writing a screenplay called "7 Psychopaths" but doesn't want the story to be just blood and gore. As the film goes along some real Psycho sh!t starts to happen around him. I thought the whole movie within a movie was a great idea. Loved how it all came together. It's funny mostly cause of the f*cked up stuff that happens all over a kidnapped Dog. Christopher Walken was funny as well as Sam Rockwell. It was just a well acted film. Enjoyed it every much.

watched this a couple nights ago

other than boardwalk empire, i haven't seen michael shannon in action (except in 8 mile lol). dude gets busy in this film. though it was a dramatic character study it didn't bore me at all. the cinematography was great & it didn't devolve into some apocalyptic sci-fi bullshit.

& jessica chastain is a lot better in this than in ZDT

i don't really care for movies with ambiguous endings, but for some reason i liked this one.

i looked at 1 of 2 ways (with the second possibility having 2 more possibilities):

1. there really was a storm & his dreams/delusions were a foreshadowing of the future, therefore he wasn't crazy

2. his family shared his delusions

2a. so they were crazy/paranoid also

2b. they (moreso the wife) understand that he's crazy (she knew all along but it finally registered at the point of the ending) & want to help him through it so he doesn't have to be alone, ie him being the only one who saw what he saw.

I fell asleep during Lincoln. I feel pretty bad about it, but it was incredibly slow. DDL was outstanding as expected but it was pretty snoozy. I couldn't make it halfway through Lawless, not that I expected much.

cs lol shit was boring as hell I went back and watched it though

220px-Life_of_Pi_2012_Poster.jpg

(GRADE = B+) Ang Lee Oscar Winning director of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain" bring this Epic Fantasy Novel to life with "Life of Pi". It's the story of an Boy from India who survives a ship wreak killing his entire family. On his little life boat is Him, A Monkey, A Zebra, A Hiena and a Tiger. The movie deals with themes of Life, Death, After Life, God, heaven and Hell. I thought it was a very well done film. The Effects were good and the movie was just crazy cause he was out there at sea for such a long time. Not only did he have to survive the animals on the life boat but he had to survive the animals at sea. Very solid movie. It's been nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Not shocked, it was very well done film.

220px-The_Bourne_Legacy_Poster.jpg

(GRADE = C) The writer of the Bourne Trilogy Tony Gilroy takes the director's chair for the 4th installment. The film takes place at the same time as the 3rd film "The Bourne Ultimatum". This time we find out Jason wasn't the only one out there. Basically the film is a side story to the trilogy and it tries to expand the mythology. Sadly the movie wasn't that good. Not enough action. The storyline was very weak with the whole Pill Poppin, might as well called it "The Bourne Addiction". Should of never got rid of Matt Damon. Weak sequel. If they want to save the series they need to bring back Matt but this wasn't a good addition to the series.

PREMIUM RUSH (GRADE = C) Blockbuster Screenwriter David Koepp who wrote Big hits "Jurassic Park, Spider man and Indy 4" is back in the director's chair with his 5th film "Premium Rush". The film stars Joseph Gordan Levitt as a NYC Bike Deliver/message who gets a package that sends him on a crazy ride up and down the streets of Manhattan. 1st the movie wasn't as bad as I thought going in. It really brings you into the Bike Delivery world. It's crazy the risk these guys take. Speaking from someone who use to deliver things in Manhattan, it's crazy there during rush hour, so many cars and people. Sadly the movie got a little gimmicky with the side love story but overall it's a rental and was pretty entertaining just average. The Bike scenes are worth the price cause it's just crazy the risk again they take.

hitchcock-poster-2.jpg

(GRADE = B) "Hitchcock" is the Drama about Alfred Hitchcock and his wife troubles with getting the film "Psycho" made. The movie was pretty good. Anthony Hopkins was Hitchcock, he should of gotten an Oscar Nod for this performance. Helen Mirin played his wife well too. It was an interesting movie to see how hard it was for Hitchcock, even though he was a successful director, he had a hard time getting this movie made. The film shows how he came up with the famous Shower scene. The acting was top notch and the story was interesting like a documentary but still a movie. Thumbs up from me. Hitchcock is one of my all time favorite directors and "Psycho" till this day is one of the greatest movies of all time.

(GRADE=B+ ) Now like most guys on the planet, I'm not big on Romantic Comedies but some of them actually are good. This film is one of them. Also being a Philly Eagles Fan made it even better. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence completely shine in their performances. Deniro also brings in one of the best performances from him in a while playing a Crazy Eagles fan. Chris Tucker also does a great job in his supporting role. The movie is a story of a guy who gets out of a mental hospital and returns to live with his parents. He then ends up meeting a girl just as unstable as him and the fun begins. The performances really drive the movie but the side Eagles story made it even funnier.

The Movie takes place during the 2008 Eagles season which was the last great Season of the Andy/Mcnabb/Jim Johnson Era. It was the famous year that they went to the NFC title game off a 9-6-1 record being the 6th Seed in the Playoffs. That's the year that featured the Infamous "Tie-gate" game and the 44-6 Massacre of the Dallas Cowboys. The movie makes references to all those classic Eagles games. The movie is actually nominated for 8 Oscars, 4 of those nominations are in the acting catagories and it deserves it. If Chris Tucker had a bigger role he might of gotten a Nod too. Overall good movie, the only reason I can't give it an "A" is cause the ending was REALLY Hollywood but it's all good, when you see what the characters have gone through you don't mind the ending.

heart warming story about a lame with no job and his douche of a brother. coulda used a few more laughs. but cool none the less. solid film.

215px-A_Haunted_House_Poster.jpg

(GRADE=C) The Wayans are back, well Marlon Wayans that is as he produced and wrote this new parody on the current horror genre. "A Haunted House" pokes fun at the current found footage horror phase. Marlon Wayans and his wife move into a new house and when weird things start happening, the movie gets really funny. Marlon Ethers "Paranormal Activity" and other horror films. The jokes were pretty funny, there probably to many sex/gay jokes but overall it you are looking for a quick laugh, this will do it. Marlon is so animated you can't help but laugh at him. But it's your typical parody so It was still average but funny.

220px-Gangster_Squad_Poster.jpg

(GRADE = C+) Josh Brolin stars in this 1950's LA Cop Drama about an off the books rough police gang called "The Gangster Squad" and how they took down Legendary Crime Boss Mickey Cohen played by Sean Penn. 1st the cast was really solid and the action actually wasn't that bad. Sadly the movie was uneven and felt like a wannabe "LA Confidential" meets "Untouchables" meets "Public Enemies". Since all those movies were pretty good that should mean a good thing but it doesn't cause the film just lacks it's own identity. Again the action was on point, the gun fights were good but the story and concept just didn't do it.

Well as January Ends, I really went on a Film Orgy (Film Orgy: to watch many different films over a short period of time) this month. 18 Total Films in 31 Days, Wow, lol. I'll probably slow down in February but "Die Hard 5" is coming out so a "Die Hard" marathon is coming up for me.
