but I'm just curious how or why he should be held to a different standard than pac or nas

Who are better MC's

Nas and Pac contradicted themselves all the time

They'd go from black kings and queens, to fucking bitches, to be there for your brother, to step to me and get shot

And y'all eat that shit up

But a nigga gets a NIKE deal and now it's not ok

Listen if you don't like kanye then simply say I don't like kanye

But to use the he condradicts himself arguement just means you don't know or understand rap and hiphop

Because all it does is contradict itself the way human beings do

Rap is supposed to reflect people, it was never meant to be stagnant and idealistic

ye used to talk about issues and include himself as one who fell short of those issues. But his tones in New Slave are arrogant and not self reflecting that he falls short as a human. All falls down and never let me down are songs where ye is humble despite knowing hes arrogant.

But the rants in europe about the same corporations that pay him is lame as fuck. The bitching about being new slaves but acting like your hands are clean is wrong. Yes we all are human we all have our flaws but ye has an attitude that he is a God and not mortal. He named the album Yeezus but he is far from immortal or perfect.

but the fact that you say it's ok to contradict yourself as long as your not 'too arrogant' is contradictory in itself

I'm cool with contradiction because thoughts & feelings change overtime but when you constantly changing for profit it looks bad

that's actually how laws work. If you tell a white lie to motivate an employees morale its not against the law. If you manipulate the numbers in the books of a company that is a felony. If you have anger management and cuss out someone its okay. If you have anger management and kill somebody then you go to jail.

so what exactly should kanye rap about

Because I know you're not suggesting he should turn down money you would gladly take

Did he acknowledged the fact that he is aware that he and his peers are slaves to material wealth? I don't think the song is arrogant or is he being outlandishly arrogant, it's angry as fuck tho and that makes sense. Kanye is infusing punk rock into his music. The format, the tone, the subject matter all scream anti establishment, anarchy 1970s punk rock. But What'd you expect? It's Mr. hard to be humble when you stuntin on a jumbotron. If I was half as talented as Kanye I would never forget to tell my peers they can't fuck with me.

he can and clearly raps about whatever he damn well chooses. no ones trying to take his freedom of speech away from him.

thats not what I'm asking

If you don't like the subject matter he is speaking about what would you prefer him to talk about

Because he's not and will never be the guy selling beats jay rapping through a neck brace again

That time has past

Some artist aren't meant to grow to a certain point musically

Kanye is just corny. He doesn't come across as comfortable or genuine when he tries to step into the political\social arena.

I don't get it. He been talking about the same shit since his first album, just a different sound, different tone, brought upon by shit he goes thru outside of music. You'd be a muthafucking fool to look at this as anything other than a new Kanye west song for a new Kanye West album.

Niggas just don't know how on interpret lyrics anymore ... And then they feed into hack ass media stories like the one dude posted and run with the shit.. Smhh

If you think anything in this song is about kanye condeming black Americans consumption your buggin ... Only thing he did was give examples of racist ideology then he sarcastically mocked what one o these types of people would say when he said "hat you want a Bentley fur coat a new chain" .... That's not him speaking in first person bruh.. C'mon now ... That's him mocking how others generalize blacks ...

I really do t be knowing what niggas are Doug when they listen to music these days ... Niggas need to read lyrics ..

Lol

The title "new slave", marketing of the new music, the imagery he used during his performance on snl allign with everything I said

Throughout the song he points out how even though soceity partcularly the clothing industry, corporations at large still views/protrays blks in a negative light (i.e. as theives), once you get alil money and influence u still a nigga and the powers that be still expect u to buy and promote their shit to other blks perpetuating the slave cycle and simultaneously funding the industrial prison complex which seeks to lock blk men up

Man what the fuck are you talking about? Lol

The title new slave is explained in the song bozo

"They trying to lock niggas up

They tryna make NEW SLAVES"

Just stop dog ....serious.... matter fact ill stop .. The nigga tells you what he means by "new slaves" In the damn lyrics ..and for some reason tho you decide to skip right past that and create your own interpretation based off of nothin the song is taking about and write this bullshit above me?

Yeah man ...some of y'all listeners need to stick to some more easily digestible concepts when it comes to this music shit.

first i'm black ...also i'm a woman... and yes stop with the insults not the best way to win an argument

with that said now let's look at the lyrics of the first verse...

You see it's broke nigga racism

That's that "Don't touch anything in the store"

And this rich nigga racism

That's that "Come here, please buy more"

What you want, a Bentley? Fur coat? A diamond chain?

All you blacks want all the same things

Used to only be niggas now everybody playing

Spending everything on Alexander Wang

New Slaves

^

lol....what do you think he meant by that? why do you think he emphasized the phrase "new slaves" at the end of the verse? smh. let me further break it down for you

ye tackles racism, being broke and not being able to "touch anything in the store" and now being rich and encouraged to "buy more. not only that he's saying all the kids want to spend their money on high end fashion but they do so to their own detriment... also one could argue ye was asserting that it’s the whips and chains, and material possessions that many in the black community long after that’s still keeping black people in a modern slavery (peep "Chain Heavy")

Y’all throwing contracts at me/You know that niggas can’t read.....Throw him some Maybach keys....Fuck it, c’est la vie...I know that we the new slaves/Y’all niggas can’t fuck with me

^

its thoughts on artists becoming slaves to corporations for the almighty dollar

yes the third verse ye is commenting on the the prison industrial complex, which disproportionately jails young men of color to fill state budget holes and enrich private corporations making these young men the "new slaves". but throughout the song he's not just pointing figures at the corporations he's also commenting on how people are now becoming slaves to materialistic things/corporate dollar ... bruh from the imagery he used during his performance all the way down to the use of the phrase " we the new slave" its all there...

and i implied ye was whining because obviously dude knows and been knew he was apart of the problem ( listen to "All Falls Down", "Chain Heavy") yet to this day he continues to live and promote this extravagant lifestyle all the while brown nosing the fashion and media elite ....which is why i questioned his intent/authenticity... lol

I've been listening to new slaves repeatedly and I want to like it due to the content and the message he's trying to convey but I just am not feeling this song at all. And truth be known, i can honestly say i haven't really felt any song or no song has really moved me like the material he's done on college dropout and late registration. Yea there were songs that were good and even very good. But nothing that called for an invigorating listen like the aforementioned

Niggas just cannot get over that Kim K shit huh? Lol.... That shit burns their souls

lol when niggas were talking about kanye lost wifing up a chick like kim k i defend ye slightly by pointing out many chicks you mess with have been with their fair share of guys. And even pointed out how a chick like taylor swift ran through more guys in the last 2 years than kim k has been with in 10 years.

That said im just saying if your wifey in kanyes case is a product of materialism and tabloids and corporations like E!/viacom shoving her into fame. But then you mad at corporations and materialism.

Taylor swift got bodies on her that's a smut.

Kanye can go fuck himself. How he preaching about corporate evils when Dame Dash out here hurting. It's crazy how when Nas speks about this on Life Is Good niggas call him boring and backpacker but yet a faggot like Kanye who just came off 2 straight capitalistic themed albums and niggas in here acting like this bullshit he mumbling this garbage ass track is gospel. He pandering to sheep niggas with no real bills and wiki scholars. The economy is turning around and niggas are gettin on they g now. He about 5 years late. When we needed him and Jay Z to talk about socio economics during the recession I recall a certain friend of his that resembles a camel saying "the recession is too depressing" to talk about. Kanye is washed up artistically. If you buying any of these lines in this song you really are a stupid motherfucker.

Read this yesterday on another site. That journalist had some points here and there but mostly that article was garbage. He should study this subject more if he wants to write on it. Like that line he referenced about darkskinned girls. Kanye didn't say that line in Power if I'm not mistaken.

yes he said that in "power"....

The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open/ We ain't got nothin' to lose, Motha----er, we rollin'/ Huh? Motha----er, we rollin'/ With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands

the consensus is kelly rowland a very beautiful dark skinned woman. when you say you're rollin' with kelly rowlands, the audience knows immediately that you're not just dealing with just any dark girls... while "light-skinned girls" is enough to suggest that the women you're rolling with are beautiful. that's the problem with the lyric....

anyways

no one is saying that ye is wrong for "new slaves" or that he somehow should be held to a different standard then other artists, just pointing out that ye is perpetuating the very things he's critiquing

yes to fault west for critiquing a problem that he admits he's a part of is to overlook one of the fundamental aspects of who we are, but unfortunately very, very few of us ( no on on this forum at least) are as influential and affluent as ye so ...

*shrugs*

@tompetrez3 cosign he selling a concept to the sheep like corporations sell jordans mark em up to create a false value and niggas killin each other over a pair and shit.
