How do "mercy" and "new slaves" contradict each other? Where does he say driving a nice car is a bad thing?

Driving and bragging about owning a car that is worth millions than the next minute condemning materialism, our consumer culture is not contradictory? Lol

What lyrics in this song condem materialism or consumer culture?

"Fuck you, and ur hampton house/Ill fuck your hampton spouse/ came on her hampton blouse".... considering the hamptons like beverly hills, etc is symbolic of affluence and wealth

Then throughout the track hes whinning about how hes rich and therefore expected to buy bentleys, furs, etc

One of two major themes of the song is how we, blacks in particular, are prisoners to are own consumerism

Lol did u actually listen to the lyrics?

Niggas just don't know how on interpret lyrics anymore ... And then they feed into hack ass media stories like the one dude posted and run with the shit.. Smh

If you think anything in this song is about kanye condeming black Americans consumption your buggin ... Only thing he did was give examples of racist ideology then he sarcastically mocked what one o these types of people would say when he said "hat you want a Bentley fur coat a new chain" .... That's not him speaking in first person bruh.. C'mon now ... That's him mocking how others generalize blacks ...

I really do t be knowing what niggas are Doug when they listen to music these days ... Niggas need to read lyrics ..

I'm sure Ye will be the first person to say he's materialistic as fuck. From what I got from the song, he's not separating himself from the people he's criticizing, he's just noting it as something to true to our society. That's one thing I respect about Ye, he can recognize what's going and still recognize that he's apart of it.

"And I ain't even gonna act holier than thou, cause I went to Jacobs with 25 thou"

The song is dope, and the album will be flames, that's all that matters. And word to the people saying that human beings constantly contradict themselves. It's like what Nas said when people were criticizing him for the very same thing.

Lol

The title "new slave", marketing of the new music, the imagery he used during his performance on snl allign with everything I said

Throughout the song he points out how even though soceity partcularly the clothing industry, corporations at large still views/protrays blks in a negative light (i.e. as theives), once you get alil money and influence u still a nigga and the powers that be still expect u to buy and promote their shit to other blks perpetuating the slave cycle and simultaneously funding the industrial prison complex which seeks to lock blk men up

Lol did u actually listen to the lyrics?

Wow ... Boy o boy you are one lost nigga

Do you know what "lyrical context" is?

I guess I'll have to break it down since niggas want to act slow

Meanwhile the DEA

Teamed up with the CCA

They tryna lock niggas up

They tryna make new slaves

See that's that private owned prison

Get your piece today

They Probably all in the Hamptons

Braggin' 'bout what they made

Fuck you and your Hampton house

I'll fuck your Hampton spouse

Came on her Hampton blouse

And in her Hampton mouth

Y'all 'bout to turn shit up

I'm 'bout to tear shit down

I'm 'bout to air shit out

Now what the fuck they gon' say now?

Opening line he divulges into the two characters responsible from promoting and ushering in privatized prisons with coporate interest In America by identify the DEA and the CCA (look Em up) he then goes into describing how these two parties have team up to systematically make money off of cheap jail house labor (which is what they do at private prisons by allowing the inmates to become available to work for other major corporations at a very low wage) hence the term "new slaves" as some call this system of corporatized cheap labor a modern form of slavery...so now you have a bit of context correct? We now know who he's talking about right? Ok .... He then goes in to talking about how these individuals who run these organization turn around and boast to each other on "how much they make" from this inhumane business model while in their nice Hampton estates ... Kanye clearly displeased by the situation goes on to clearly reinforce his disdain for these individuals by claiming that he will disrespectfully do so on and so forth with the spouses of these individuals in their nice Hampton homes ... He then states he's about to "air shit out" about these injustices as clearly people such as yourself are unaware as to what is happening and that by him doing this they can't do shit about it ... "Now what the fuck ou gone say now" ..... How you niggas got consumerism bashing out of these lyrics is simply beyond me ... As its clear who his audience was and why they were beig targeted ... Smh

The main two themes of the song are 1.Coporoate Exploitation 2. Cross Class Racism..

Smh I know niggas can't be this dull bruh.. And another smh at a dude giving you instances of racism bein called whining? You a white boy ain you cuhz?

Lol did you actually understand these lyrics?

Man what the fuck are you talking about? Lol

The title new slave is explained in the song bozo

"They trying to lock niggas up

They tryna make NEW SLAVES"

Just stop dog ....serious.... matter fact ill stop .. The nigga tells you what he means by "new slaves" In the damn lyrics ..and for some reason tho you decide to skip right past that and create your own interpretation based off of nothin the song is taking about and write this bullshit above me?

Yeah man ...some of y'all listeners need to stick to some more easily digestible concepts when it comes to this music shit.

At the end of the day Ye or anyone with a message are human.

instead of putting these people on a pedestal we should stop and think they are just like us.

that's just human nature you might want to do the right thing but there always things pulling at you.

you can say fuck whitey, we need to build up our own community but still have a love for a nice Rolex.

does this make you a bad person? no not by any means it makes you human.

I say Kanye is doing the right thing.

why is his affinity for fashion and things he deem as the finer things in life taking away from the message that is being presented?

we tend to look at the negatives above the positives and that's the problem in itself.

the messenger is always going to be judged. isn't that a contradiction?

why do we want positivity and a message but can't look past the messenger? or are the judges free from judgment?

Very interesting arguments on both ends especially by the nigga @JDSTAYWITIT (nigga are you on the debating threads? You should hop on 'em)

Right now though KanYe talking about corporate exploitation and whatnot might not move me now unlike his College Series themed days especially on CD & LR.

By the time he dropped Graduation (aptly titled) he was 'gone'. LOL

On a sidenote, I just watched both performances of his new songs on SNL over the weekend. 'New Slaves' has grown on me slightly. However, 'Black Skinhead' I ain't feeling that one at all. The production too gothic for my tastes . ..

Lol nah bruh ... Unfortunately a nigga too lazy for all the back and forth most days ... I really don't like writing Titangraps but sometimes ...some shit that i read on here just has to be "addressed" as it is too far beyond the realm of reality ..Haha but I might check it out them shits be poppin?

And yo I thought the same thing about these two tracks especially black skinhead when I first heard it ... I was awww shit this nigga kanye done lost his mind! He doin rock now! Lol .. But if you listen to that swooping bass line it's very vintage kanye he always uses that muffled distored bass sound .. And once I read the lyrics I was oh ok This nigga on that shit with this record ... I still am holding out full judgement until I hear CDQ you know? Cos I'm sure he'll flush some shit out and make it sound even crazier ... Word around town is he only wrote that BSH track hours befor performing it on SNL .. That's probably not even the finished version

Cool.

I was just listening to the instrumental of 'Comfortable' by Wayne feat. BabyFace this morning on my way to work and I'm always amazed by the smooth vibe of that record. Its a very unusual 'Ye production . .

If 'Ye does most of his producing on his shits, I think he'll be better for it

But yea.. as hypocritical as we all are and can even admit, it'd be nice if someone actually stood up for the shit they talk about in their music. Otherwise, the message probably won't be taken seriously. It just looks like theatrics. It's really not any excuses if you screaming all that shit with a vengeance. You control your own actions.

I swear I wish Pac would have grown to see his 30's. Guarantee it would have been more than music.

Read this yesterday on another site. That journalist had some points here and there but mostly that article was garbage. He should study this subject more if he wants to write on it. Like that line he referenced about darkskinned girls. Kanye didn't say that line in Power if I'm not mistaken.

so just so I'm clear

Y'all just want kanye to either just rap about jewelry and clothes or stay a backpacker for life

So I guess he was a new slave when he surgically implanted diamond teeth in his mouth.

I'm not fucking with this album. This dude is way too pretentious and emotional nowadays.
