after 13 years of its initial release compared to em's other albums like the mmlp, the eminem show which both sold 10 million each recovery which after 18th months sold 5 million

proves that not anything eminem puts out will sell so highly like all his projects 3 million is still a lot and it's a multi platinum plaque but when you compare it to a 10 million diamond plaque we talking about a difference of 7 million

then when you look at the fact recovery released only 18 months ago has already out sold the slim shady lp which was released in 1999 13 years ago it has already sold 2 million more than the sslp and will out sell it by a huge amount more since it is still selling alot to this day

so the ic false assumption that eminem can sell whatever he puts out is pretty silly when looked at the facts cos the fans are not going to support a product if they do not like it

who gives a fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

SSLP had 2 singles (3 if you count Just Don't Give A Fuck), neither of which cracked the top 20. They barely promoted that album, prolly cuz they had little faith in it. But after it did as well as it did for a debut and the successful touring, they went harder with promoting MMLP. All those singles were successful, and he toured well with that as well. Same with TES, not to mention that he had 8 Mile coming out, which helped boosted the sales of TES even more. I remember Sing For The Moment coming out as a single in like early 03 and putting the album back in the top 10. Encore was ass, but they promoted the shit out of it and sold as well.

The only difference between those albums was promotion. Perfect example, the difference between Relapse and Recovery. They couldn't do much with Relapse cuz there weren't that much songs they could put out as singles, and there weren't too many videos. I think Relapse sold on the strength of being Em's comeback album. Recovery, however, was more friendly to the public. A song about domestic abuse featuring Rihanna... that shit'll sell like hotcakes. So yeah, you're right in the sense that people bought what they could relate to the most. My thing is, why did Encore, his worst album, sold as well as his other albums, and Relapse sold only a million less worldwide than Recovery even though it was pretty much a horrorcore album.

Sidenote, I listened to Recovery today for the first time in a month... SMH @ me for sleeping on Seduction for a year and a half... that shit goes.

The point i keep making and this point kills the Shock Value fans like you Lab is 95% of Eminem fans like Eminem that makes the Emotional/Deep/Introperspective/Heart felt real life struggle Music over the violent cartoonish immature Slim Shady type gimmick Songs again Lab not dissing your taste just telling you the facts

You so wrong it's not even funny Relapse had Crack A Bottle which debuted straight at number 1 on the Billboard, had We Made You wich reached the top 10 and Beautiful which reached the top 20

And it is only your personal opinion Encore is the worst but i myself like most Em fans think it had some of the best Songs from Em ever like Mockingbird

I dunno whatr insecurity you and nujerz have about accepting the fact 99% of Eminem fans love the Deep and heart felt Eminem over the Shock Value character you guys seem to hate accepting this fact i dunno why????

It doesn't kill me at all, I'm well aware of what Em's majority fanbase likes. I actually dig all those songs. I respect that you don't like the shock content... no problem at all. I was just speaking numbers, which really don't affect my opinion on the music. Crack A Bottle and We Made You were Em's first singles in like 4 years, that's why they did so well. And again, why did the songs with shock content chart higher than Beautiful? Not saying that that's what people wanted, but Beautiful wasn't as hyped up as the other two singles. Even 3 AM got a video on HBO or one of them movie channels. Trust me, they can sell anything Em related with the right promo. Word to both D12 albums going platinum with only 4 singles between each of them.

And yes, an album with a song called Big Weenie coming from a dude of a caliber of Em is horrendous. Mosh, Yellow Brick Road and Mockingbird (neither of which charted higher than Just Lose It) were classics, but he played himself with that album, and that's coming from someone who likes his funny shit.

I have a problem with this post...

But people like you Lab and Nujerz have too much pride even when you presented with facts

Nah, I like those songs. When I'm Gone, Sing For The Moment and Lose Yourself are my favorite Em songs. But as an MC, I appreciate Em's crazy shit. And obviously if you seen the BET cypher that's not something he's going to put behind him anytime soon.

Only thing that tells me is when he dumbed down for a bigger audience and abandoned his black and underground following the more he was excepted by whites and pop fans so of course he's gonna sell more and anybody else that sells out and go pop will sell more records too even if they black. Jay Z learned how to play the good ol " water your rap skills down for whites" game also and many of the people that judge his music from start to now say he was better rapwise in the reasonable dought days. He even aluded to dumbing down for his audience during the Black album on moment of clarity. Let's not sit here and act like Eminiem got better since his first album and that's the reason he's selling 7 mill more. You know and I know it's because with watered down generic pop that hip hop purist can't really bump, the audience for that type of music is 7 million people bigger than the audience he had his first album.

I disagree. MMLP and TES was way better than SSLP rapwise. He just toned down on the crazy shit. But that can be said about Relapse vs Recovery. Recovery was more simple rap wise, but he had a lot of relatable songs on there. He still was rappin his ass off on it... always does, even on Encore he had bars.

I just don't see the man that rapped amazing at the radio station that I did when he first came out. I see a durag wearing white guy tryna act hard when he gets upset about something, not the guy that rapped about getting beat on in school and turning that into his own victory by owning it. I don't hang on his every bar like I use to when he was rappin with all those incredible multies and dark metaphors. I see a little sence of humor still, but you can tell Jimmie Iovine been making him surpress the shit that made him stand out. Now he sounds like every other emo rap bastard that wants radio spins. I can get that "make you wanna cry because of the struggle and hardships" shit from anybody. Don't nobody I know that was a Big time fan of his when he first started out want to hear a rapper as ill as Eminiem introspective and thought provoking all the time. And why did he have to change his voice to that annoying ass yelling flow? Listen to his song on the sound bombing pt. 2 called Anyman and the flow he does now on sky full of lighters. Smh @ what a relic he's become in terms of wanting to hear the guy.

I haven't been on here for at least a month, I come back and this stupid bitch is still at it? I think the mods just made this character up to create drama or something, I can't believe there's really somebody out there who is this obsessed with any one persons life and career. One day we're going to see this bitch on Intervention or some shit. When Eminem dies, Stan here is going to jump off a bridge.

But that in it self is a contradiction Eminem had records like Rock Bottom and If I Had on his first Album

On his Intoperspective records which are the majority how is he dumbing anything down? he is still Lyrical as far as Multis but it's classy and great based on the fact he is Lyrical on records like Superman, Mockingbird, When I'm Gone, If I had, Say Goodbye To Hollywood, Sing For The Moment etc but at the same time actually saying something deep and relatable expressing his personal pain but like i said still being Lyrical blended with Emotional while doing it that is the hardest thing for a Song Writer to be Deep and make Songs saying something the listener can connect with feel the pain and get moved by what is being said but like i said still be Lyrical while speaking on a struggle

Deep Content + Lyricism is the hardest thing to do oppossed to just Rapping about nothing or Rapping about a bunch of random violance in reality that is called dumbing down Music cos anyone can Rap saying nothing the most important aspect of Hip Hop is what is being said as far as Content and how well it's said and expressed with emotions

So what you are saying makes no sense and you basically in reality lets be honest hate the fact Eminem got as big as he did you liked Eminem when he wasn't as popular same way a person will say oh i'll stop wearing Nike shoes or Ralph Lauren or Levis just cos they got more popular and more people are wearing them i felt cooler when it wasn't so popular, it's human nature but it's in reality quite sad cos it means you are insecure and never were a true Eminem fan but just a fan of a gimmick and a fan of something so simple and easily done which is Rapping with no Substance

What exactly is Pop about records like When I'm Gone, Mockingbird, Sing For The Moment, The Way I Am, Going Through Changes, We As Americans, Cleaning Out My Closet etc sure he's Singing on the Hooks on a lotta these tracks but to call them Pop is idiotic they are pure Hip Hop based on the fact they cover all the dope elements of a Hip Hop Song good Content, Substance, good Lyricisim, Emotion, expressive feelings, personal feelings, dope Melodic Hooks and dope Production a lotta these records you say are Pop just cos they Introperspective are quite dark

Seems to me like you do not know the difference between Emotional/Deep and Pop

And you are telling me black Hip Hop fans like Shock Value Rap over INtroperspective Music based on personal struggles an Artist went through? again what an idiotc statement why is it that most black fans if they have anything bad to say about Eminem it's based on his silly gimmicky Shock Content?

Majority of people regardless if they are black or white love great Music which an important the most important factor is Content and what is being said in the Lyrics and how it is expressed as far as Emotion

You just too scared to come out and say you are not interested in Music with meaning, substance, emotion, pain thought provoking Lyrics but just enjoy random Rapping for the sake of Rapping if you would just say that instead of talking nonsense you would get more respect

How the fuck did you sleep on Seduction? That shit knocked on loop for a good album when the album dropped.

Oh, and the climate in hip hop was different then. Everybody thought Eminem was a complete goofball flash in the pan white rapper. Remember, the last White rapper that made any noise prior to him on a mainstream stage was Vanilla Ice. Everlast sorta counts, but Jump Around was not Hi My Name is Or Ice Ice Baby.

And we can't forget the overall jump in quality, promotion, and skills Em displayed between SSLP and MMLP.
