Good thread soul rattler. But there is a difference though. Some of those "Veterans" names you listed are LEGENDS within HIP HOP. But some Hip Hop Legends go beyond rap music. Like Biggie and Pac are not just Hip Hop Legends but Legends in general. So you can be a Hip Hop Legend but not be a worldwide Legend if you get what I'm saying. Jay Z is a Living Legend as well as Dr. Dre, they are also Worldwide Legends that go beyond Hip Hop. NaS is a Hip Hop Legend no doubt but not a worldwide Legend or Icon.
