Same things can be said about white character on TV.

Watch any redneck show.

Watch that show with Charlie Sean. He stay smashing hoes.

Seinfeld smashed a new Bitch every ep.

You can't blame Hollywood for shitty roles black actors accept.

Nobody is forced to play into stereotypes.

I couldn't care less either way.

but if those are the only ones that written into a show what are black actors supposed to do?

we need to press on the writers an support more black writers.

i actually hate how they have black people sound on hbo.....they all sound stupid cuz thats how white people see us

In media covet and respect what you produce, cause at some point it will become popular, when that day comes have rules that you live and die by, or someone will find a way to do what you produce without you..case in point, tyler perry movies

when they were plays they had reason, depth, hope, and respect

when they first became movies, they were the same and black people flocked to them, but he didnt covet his audience or the rules he set when writing his plays

for more money and a bigger appeal he went went away from those rules and played into the stereotypes set for blacks by whites in the business...shortly after that movies began to be made to where people off hand thought they were tyler perry movies...they learned to make his movies without him because he didnt respect what he produced

Like John Singleton said...they found away to make black movies without black people

so why support it?

Thank God for scandal

How bout its gay the new.. British/White

as far as unnecessary out of place we just threw it in there to grasp the demographic kind of a way

Seems like you described every emotion/character available. I mean im black but what else is there supposed to be? I mean white characters fits into those roles too most of the times as well.

White folks would just black face it.

One thing I've noticed is that many black directors havent caught on to the fact that black society is changing

We're a more socially diverse & conscientious people. We don't find the same things interesting or funny that we did 20-30 yrs ago. As much as we like to hype up black films in the 90s, a lot of those films woukd flop today because it doesn't connect with the modern black audience.

Tyler Perry has a huge multi-media platform... this clown continues to create and write single dimensional characters that neatly slot into the O/P's list of Black character traits.

fact is, most Black people like simplistic characters, plots and storytelling, as a result you get shit like this, by Blacks for Blacks:

The Game

Meet the Browns

Scandal (the story arc is awful)

House of Payne

The Madea franchise

Soul Plane

etc.

Top 10 Grossing Black Movies of ALL TIME... aside from Ray (a biopic) & Dreamgirls (a remake of a play) name one movie that you'd consider to be a Great Story.

1. Coming To America (1989) $288 Million

2. Bad Boys II (2003) $272 Million

3. Big Momma's House (2000) $173 Million

4. Dreamgirls (2006) $154 Million

5. Bad Boys (1995) $141 Million

6. Big Momma's House 2 (2006) $137 Million

7. Boomerang (1992) $131 Million

8. Ray (2004) $125 Million

9. Little Man (2006) $101 Million

10. Are We There Yet? (2005) $97 Million

Everyone seems to love the new Best Man movie, while I found the characters and story very predictable and cliche. I especially cringed @ Nia Long's "independent black woman" facade. It was a shit film imo. My problem with a lot of black films is that they're based on relationship drama and revolve around simplistic characters w/o much depth. (Tyler Perry, Think Like A Man) But I can't really blame the studios though, because the majority of the Black population flocks towards these movies.
