I wasn't even aware that Albert Pujols was 1 home run shy of 600
seems like these world series hangovers are a real thing
the last 4 winners all missed the playoffs the next year
last time a WS winner made a return trip to the playoffs as defending champs was the 2012 st louis cardinals
2013 red sox
2014 giants
2015 royals
all missed the postseason
i dont think the cubs miss the playoffs but it goes to show that winning a world series is hard and nothing can be taken for granted because baseball can be weird

and its the best start by any team since the 2001 seattle mariners who started 45-12 that year
i see them trading some of their prospects for a starting pitcher and maybe some bullpen help -- you would hate to see some of these prospects go on to have a great major league career elsewhere but if the players in return help finally win a world series then it is worth it
its been over 50 years
