Duke literally just stated the obvious and repeated pretty much everything I said.Nah a good trade would be getting a player with long term value = to a top 30 prospect in baseball.Acquiring chapman don't mean the cubs will get to the world series let alone win it especially when they struggle to hit good pitching.

Keep makin moves theo go get josh reddick they in it to win it.Need another lefty bat who can make contact and draw walks cuz heyward a rally killing double play/groundout machine

theo/jed built up the farm system to make moves like this

they have prospect depth

they can reload again

like theo and co dont self scout better than anyone (torres was an international bonus baby)

bullpen was big flaw

its not now

talking about a guy who missed 30 games to suspension yet has the most saves in the mlb since and hes the hardest thrower in the game -- chapman is 1 of the 3 or 4 true difference maker relievers in the game -- he is a guy who you can ask to get 6 outs in a playoff game -- now if chapman bounces in fa (i really dont see a reason as to why he would)

SHIT

(unless he helps the cubs win the ws this year)

the real loser in this chapman thing is the reds

Cincinnati received right-handed pitchers Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis and infielders Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda in the deal for the 27-year-old Chapman, who posted a 1.63 ERA in 65 appearances last season. MLBPipeline.com had Jagielo (No. 6) and Davis (No. 10) ranked among the Yankees' top 30 prospects.

none of these players made keith laws (or baseball america i think) top 100 prospects

cashman out here flipping tracks that been flipped but flipping them better

the nerve of these cub fans though

fan favorite starlin castro was accused of shooting someone and raping someone

john lackey left his wife with cancer

but they cant bring in aroldis chapman

if the white sox were in the race id absolutely want chapman

i compartmentalize well though i dont care what athletes do off the field

most of these fans upset about chapman would probably still go see a johnny depp film or mel gibson or charlie sheen or sean penn or emmma roberts or nic cage or ozzy osbourne or josh brolin

its entertainment

and 590 Ks in 350 ip is entertaining

this is theo first 'go for it trade'

hard on a fan base thats grown to love prospects but theo has said thats what he planned to do

if anything they need to give theo/jed life time contracts

i dont know if the cubs will win the world series this year but you have to be pretty damn optimistic with their direction

these cubs are built for long term success WITH a title window

Yea my only complaint is I feel like torres could of headlined a trade for a cost controlled starter which would of provided long term equal value.I also think baezs progression and his defensive versatility made torres expendable and the cubs farm loaded they have a 17 year old ss named aramis ademan who is basically torres 2.0.

Like I said I can't complain about acquiring chapman especially when rondon been inconsistent lately he let nick markakis bum ass hit a hr off him and yesterday gave up a hr in the 9th.I aint tryin to see that in close playoff games.

I'd still like to see them add another bat who can make contact and grind out ab's I hope theo gets reddick cuz the hitting too inconsistent they draw walks but can't consistently drive em in

yeah thats why i like this trade because rondon has been shaky and he did lose his closer job in may/june last year to strop and motte only to regain it -- the guy has struggled before and youd much rather have chapman on your side rather than having to face him in october on the giants or nats

torres might be a very good player at some point but is probably not going to be much better (if at all) than russell and baez will be and those guys are still just 22 and 23 so for a team like the cubs that is young at the major league level this is a very reasonable move -- lets assume torres will be ready sometime in 2019 -- i dont think russell had the required service time a year ago so on opening day 2019 he will still have 3 full years of team control -- maybe torres is worth more as a trade chip then or maybe he isnt but hes probably without an obvious starting position in chicago

just for reference purposes -- in 2010 -- baseball america had castro as the 16th best player -- just about where torres consensus will probably be next year -- in 2013 mike olt was rated the 23rd best prospect in baseball -- not a lot of these guys go on to be good players -- torres should be a solid player but were still talking about a 19 year old here though

we know who chapman is

its only an L if he dips

so you have story with like 28 HR's

diaz hitting .318 with good power

seager for LA all as nl rookie ss this year.

i feel like all of them would win rookie of the year most years

Chapman was pretty adamant he wanted to re-sign with the yankees.Hopefully an actual winning culture and a potential world series trip changes his mind cuz yea that would be a major L if he goes back to new york. All I know the cardinals haven't scored on him in 5 years that's all that matters in the present cuz them bugs still lingering.Shouts to the dodgers for taking 2 out 3

the extension talk never made any sense to me

hes a few months away from being on the open market with several teams pursuing him

theres no incentive for him to sign with a new team right now

its why he was being shopped

he turned down the yankees overtures at an extension

hes going where the money at

cubs have just a good chance as anybody

I just read the mlb.com article sayin chapman wouldn't talk extension wit the yankees so yea they do have a chance

4 years 72 mil is what I'd offer.Hope he likes it here cuz I'd feel way better about this trade if chapman helped win the ws and was here longer than 2-3 months

Can't believe the cubs lost 2 in a row to these clowns. Not only that but to the back of the rotation.

Still don't know what bryant was doing last night in the 9th he gave away an out with that unnecessary maddon "aggressive base running" non sense when it would of been 1st and 3rd wit no outs and rizzo up down 1.They don't hit consistently enough.Only reason I aint really trippin is cuz the rest of the nl contenders have flaws.
