I'll never forget hawkins blowing that save vs the mets in 04 victor diaz a damn september call up hit the game tying and walk off in extras.Cubs went into a tailspin and blew the wc lead.I literally remember watching that game mark prior pitched 7-8 shut out innings then hawkins blew the save gave up a 3 run hr 2 outs bottom of the 9th hated his guts ever since.

i remember in late 04 glendon rusch threw a gem and he also hit a HR and latroy hawkins blew the save

there was another one where he walked 5 straight batters to lose a game in st louis

if you dont know who latroy hawkins is you dont know what the struggle was like being a cubs fan growing up

yall hated that man lol

him and jacque jones claimed they were receiving racially motivated threats

never really viewed him as a front office guy but it would explain why he lasted all these years because as long as i have watched baseball latroy hawkins has blown games in crucial moments

Hawkins blew a bunch of saves in 05 too then lost the closers job to dempster(who sucked as closer too) then they traded his ass

The worst part was hawkins grew up a cubs fan from gary indiana he chose to sign with them

jerome williams lol

he was good when the cubs had him

when fowler hit that 2 run shot off hawkins last year to put the cubs ahead in 9th was when the new cubs were born

i would be willing to take a flyer on greg holland

especially with bosio

he was a stud before surgery and i think he could make a strong comeback and being a cheaper option to either of the other closers on the market

Cubs attended the showcase but the reviews were ehhh he was hitting 90-91 on the gun, holland will resume throwing in a few weeks to get ready for spring training.I wouldn't mind as long as he isn't tryna get a lot, mlb trade rumors were talkin bout 2 years 20 mil projection

As far as the closer doubt they sign chapman, melancon, jansen unless they're being coy so edwards, rondon potentially signing holland or a trade for one(colome from the rays) sounds like the move

Edit there was like 20 teams at the showcase red sox want holland the most they are "aggressively pursuing him" last I read

anyone looking to pay a closer 20 million is doing so because they cant fill a deficiency elsewhere (rotation) and the cubs dont have those deficiencies

if anything trade for wade davis if you really want a closer near the deadline

but i am fully behind carl edwards as the closer next season

have rondon and edwards battle it out in ST

I think that's posturing,I'll believe it when i see it.I don't think the owners are THAT dumb cuz mlb took a big hit wit the last labor stoppage and baseball just had a great postseason run,is thriving with revenue they drew a lot of casual fans this past october a lock out would be terrible timing they can't be that short sighted

with the cavs and cubs winning championships in 2016

trump getting elected AND the cowboys being the best team in football

nothing would surprise me

seattle pushing every chip they got to the center of the table

the walker/hultzen/paxton trio was supposed to be the core

interesting

dont think much of marte and walker still needs to take another step

segura has 2 really bad years sandwiched between his 2 good ones

arizona has starters galore now i suspect one gets moved

greinke

ray

bradley

walker

miller (cubs should see if a soler deal can be made here)

de la rosa

shipley

potentially corbin

not that all of them are good but they are still bodies

Yea walker was top 10 prospect in baseball like 2 years ago but in the bigs he been pretty average

He still young think it's a good trade for both teams

walker isnt the type of pitcher an organization should trade away unless there are long term injury concerns

which i think is the case here

he started pitching like shit after he hurt his ankle is june or july

good buy low sell high

Sounds like chapman goin back to the yankees

Where you see this?

The Yankees want Aroldis Chapman back. Apparently, the feelings are mutual.

Since the day the Yankees traded him to the Cubs in late-July, the flame-throwing closer hasn’t hidden his love for New York, but Tuesday he told NY Sports Day that he “would love to be a Yankee again.”

“The organization treated me first class,” Chapman said in an interview with Ray Negron, a former Yankees employee and long-time adviser to Hank Steinbrenner. “And the fans were like no other.”

The Dodgers have two of the best free agents on the market in closer Kenley Jansen and third baseman Justin Turner, but the franchise’s mountainous debt could make it difficult to re-sign either. The club will trim payroll in 2017 as it seeks to reduce debt in order to comply with Major League Baseball rules, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

After combining for a league-high $1.181 billion (including $112MM in luxury-tax payments) in end-of-season payrolls in their first four years under Guggenheim Baseball Management, the Dodgers are “hundreds of millions in debt,” a source said. “We’re not talking about, ‘Let’s reduce our payroll by $40 million and we’ll be compliant,'” the source commented.

Franchises must comply with MLB’s debt service rule within five years of new ownership taking over. The rule “limits debt to no more than 12 times annual revenue, minus expenses,” writes Shaikin. If a team is in violation, the commissioner has 16 options to discipline that club, including requiring approval of expenditures and issuing suspensions to ownership and/or management. Rob Manfred isn’t worried he’ll have to take such drastic measures with the Dodgers, though.
