this just a small indicator of this teams true biggest weakness

they cannot scout or truly evaluate talent

Lol I said before they acquired shields that was a questionable acquisition.I wouldn't want no parts of duke pitching in the al at guaranteed rate(that's the dumbest name for a stadium I swear loll)

Another band aid move white sox have no sense of direction.They better trade sale/quintana,robertson,eaton or Imma be pissed and I aint a fan

sale is probably getting traded this off season and its probably the only move that makes sense now since the white sox 1 of 4 teams left to never sign a player exceeding a $70 million dollar contract -- i just dont see a path to contention that includes sale on the roster over the next 3 years -- like how do they improve -- they cant forfeit picks to sign FA (especially in this draft) and they dont have prospects to trade

some sort of rebuild is option #1

schwarber being a PH has some hidden advantages

you know joe is going to try to maximize him

i think this may mess with francona and his use of miller

he might be less inclined to bring miller in earlier in the game in a big spot if he thinks he may have to save him for schwarber

if not

then schwarber will likely get to face a righty in that big spot

schwarber is a powerful piece joe can use to fuck with francona

yeah its just too risky -- he isnt a good fielder to begin with and will be going rusty on a knee that isnt 100% -- you can still get three PAs from him over the next 3 games and with the versatility of the cubs bench you can make his PH appearances as high leverage as possible

but yeah schwarber is the baby brother on that team

everyone loves him

at the highest level and in the highest stage hes doing this

its really a testament to that dudes mental toughness

he is becoming more myth than man

tomlin is a lot like hendricks in terms of pitch variety and velocity -- he doesnt strike out a lot of people and he never walks people -- the big difference is that tomlins stuff induces weakly hit pop ups while hendricks stuff induces weakly hit ground balls -- the problem for tomlin is that when 1 of those fly balls is sharply hit it end ups in the seats -- for hendricks when 1 of those ground balls is sharply hit the worst case scenario is a single if its not gobbled up by russell or baez

and that explains the 2+ run difference in their era

sometimes baseball is weird but this really should be a cubs win in game 3

noteworthy tidbit

tomlins 57 year old father randomly had complications with tangled blood vessels on his spinal cord and they are not sure if he will ever walk again

the hospital is releasing him so he can watch his son pitch at wrigley tonight

That being said It would be ideal if the cubs win all 3 but I expect them to get 2 at wrigley(games 3 & 5).I wonder if santana plays left and wit the wind if that will end up affecting him he hasn't played outfield in 4 years,

yeah santana starting in left

he played 4 innings there in 2012

to me it would make more sense to play santana at first and move napoli to left

either way advantage chicago

especially if the wind is going to be blowing out

best case scenario: knock out tomlin early and then wear out the indians bullpen in game 3 with no days off before kluber and bauer go on short rest in games 4 and 5

i was listening to the radio and they were discussing some baseball podcast from the ringer about playoff tactics and they talked about game 7 of the 1924 world series and found this interesting

basically the senators started a random righty in game 7 to cause the giants to lock into a lefty heavy batting order then switched to a lefty pitcher after 2 batters

some dude named bill terry was killing the senators that series but struggled against lefties so the giants manager pinch hit for him lol

its funny how old school players been embracing 'math' but scared of sabermetrics
