I think if he was meeting with actual leaders / appointed representatives of said groups and there was some transparency and measurable, agenda then there wouldn't be a problem.

But to meet just for a photo op, or to not do anything after the meeting, or for them to come out of meeting kissing his ass - yeah fuck 'em. I can see why people would come down on them.

I don't know if I agree with that statement. There are most definitely some people out there that feel like them, but let's be real, most of those people don't vote Democrat anyway. Trump is in office more because nobody liked Hillary than anything else. Trump energized the racists, so they turned out in droves to vote for him. The people that were tired of the establishment voted for him because he presented himself as anti-establishment. So his base supported him. The Democratic base was larger, but they were nearly as strongly behind Hillary.
