It's hard to remember with the blonde hair, Trump supporting, Kanye Kardashian of 2016 but he partially got on with Dead Prez, Talib and Mos Def. Ye credits them for having any kinda pen game, toured with them and wanted to sign to Rawkus way back.

You're talking about popularity and commercial success now, which doesn't really have shit to do with quality of music. I wasn't the one who made the Kweli catalog vs Kanye catalog statement, but it isn't laughable, I can actually get behind it. They both contributed to hip hop in major, different ways. But if I had to choose ones catalog to disappear forever it would be Ye even though that would be an L. Blackstar, Reflection Eternal and all the other albums matter more to me than Kanye albums.

The only way in which Get By is the "high point of his whole career" is if you're measuring by commercial success. He has plenty other songs that good.

And Kweli got some fire beats from Kanye... Kanye honed his rap skills from Blackstar & fam. Pretty symbiotic relationship.

Clearly some of us think Talib albums are better quality. Kinda pointless argument for me considering I love both catalogs, but I value Kwelis lyrics more and consider his music more meaningful than Kanye's, even though Ye's got the beats. If one had to go it would be Kanye for me.
