Even on those really commercial Biggie tracks he was still being lyrical. It's only in this era that lyricism on party songs cant go hand in hand.

Its a new era, people want to hear music that is appeals to the ear, sounds good in your ride, and gets the girls giddy.

You can be the most lyrical emcee in the world, but if you lack mic-presence and charisma on the mic alot of people wont feel you.
There are alot of intangibles that come with emceeing and people prefer different emcees based on personal preference.
