at my cookouts, my relatives ask specifically for what they want

if my aunt wants a coke, she wants a coke, but i know that b/c thats the ONLY soda she's drunk since i've been alive

if my mama want a diet coke, occasionally i may to ask if she wants diet coke or coke zero, but most of the time, she is specific and asks for coke zero if that's what she wants

the trick is when my other aunt wants a cold drink. Process of elimination, its not a water, b/c she will ask for a bottled water. This usually ends with me going to the cooler and asking her what kind does she want, she asks whats left, i tell her, she tells me

end of story

like fam comes in, "hey we cooked....the plates on the counter.....water in the cooler and cokes in the fridge"

In Boston they called it a line up I think and in NC it was fade.

So what do you call it?

Where I'm from it's a corner store or a tienda.

While we're at it, what are other regional names for things/activities that are particular to where you are from?

Let me clear the air as far as Atlanta/Ga is concerned....

The majority of us call each individual brand by its name. Coca-Cola is Coke, Sprite is Sprite, Strawberry/Pineapple/Grape Fanta is a Strawberry/Pineapple/Grape Fanta and a Pepsi is a Pepsi. We're quite literal round here.

I have RARELY heard anyone here refer to all soft drinks as Coke, we usually differentiate that.

Now my pops (no pun intended) is from upstate NY and they usually call soft drinks, "pop" in general, but they use soda also.

Now I have never gotten the "Cold Drink" thing @ all. I know folks from Louisiana say that shit, but it just sound vague as phuck. I remember the first time I heard that I was like "A cold drink of WHAT nikka??!" lol

all carbonated soft drinks are called by it's civilized name "pop"

as you can clearly see, it's "pop" in the vast majority of this country.

It's "soda" in the states that matter. I'm giving the south a pass, because I can't think of a reason why someone would call a mountain dew or grape soda "coke". Must be a glitch in the matrix.
