If Elvis is really the king of rock and roll so many people wouldn't have exposed him for not writing his own music and stealing most of his music from black artists he watched when he was growing up.
Kenny G is the highest selling jazz musician but overall in terms of the genre more people will say they liked Miles Davis more then him and consider him the greatest jazz musician of all time.

If you think a white person's opinion holds so much power that it overrides common sense then you just doing yourself in.

Nobody considers Kenny G the greatest jazz musician of all time Its Miles all day nobody dissects his music like they do Miles.

Hey Kid, it's a hard enough struggle trying to fit the entire alphabet on a $2 cotton hat....snap backs back?

Your opinion as a white person means nothing to me, I was speaking more in terms of common consensus based on the revisionist rewritten history that most people your color and mine treat as Gospel.

I know many whites who consider Kenny G the greatest Jazz musician and they site him being the #1 seller in Jazz as proof.....funny how people keep nit-picking Kenny G as of that was the thread-premise.

So let me get this straight: labels are giving deals to artists that they know will ultimately flop? What's the point?? Ain't that hustling backwards?

Kenny G Vs Miles Davis.........Emenim Vs Rakim......

Kreayshawn is one hit away from being the next Ke$ha, MGK got himself a major-label deal, Mac Miller had the 8th best first week sales in 2011 HipHop, Yelawolf outsold Styles P, and Asher Roth is on the greatest HipHop label ever created.

K-Koke is on Roc Nation so he is just as relevant as Jay Electronica...Oh behave!!

Pauli D is just a token signee so that 50-Cent can prove to his fans that he is still the jolliest Negro in HipHop.

Coltrane>>>>>>>Miles

Well first off, a revisionist history is not the standard. It is something that ultimately becomes an accepted standard for"some" by way of popularity, social climate, or knowledge.

Miles Davis was never the highest selling jazz musician that was always Kenny G, when you brought up this point you weren't talking about a popular opinion.

Its easier to bring up revisionist history when your talking about popularity because ultimately that is going to connect with more people to effect how something is viewed. When you bring up something concrete like sales and try to bring up revisionist history you once again do your own argument in.

In a way this whole thread seems to point out the diaspora you seem

You don't know what common consensus and popular opinion is.

You engage in semantics because answering the original question in the thread is beyond your level of intellect.

Its easier to deflect, distract, and derail than answer a simplistic question in regards to recent signings in HipHop.

They are doing it because they are desperate to recreate and harness the underground and independent circuit of hip hop culture and rap music.Kreayshawn is a joke a gimmick and she has said she is confused and doesn't want to make music.ASAP Rocky is a jumbled mess of different coast and sounds and folks know he is not a true a southerner and is a biter,MGK whole gimmick is a fast spitting white rapper oh wait he sounds just like yela who is a fringe rapper that is in his 30s.They are throwing anything at the wall to make it stick they realized the same walls they made to lock intelligent, creative black artist out have kept them locked in.They can't create or manufacture buzzes now. Kreayshawn is a complete failure v nasty ruined her career completely.

LOL you random old Cracka's seem aggravated.

You are the E-version of Bill O'Reily.

Your inability to answer the simplest of questions is a testament to your lack of knowledge.

Many whites such as yourself get frustrated when a Black person makes observations based on who got signed to a major label deal in the rap industry in 2011 but you old Cracka's shouldn't allow a stranger to irritate you to the degree that I do.

This is a knowledgable post were you shared your own observations based on industry activities, I appreciate that because most posters are too sensitive or feminine to actually stay on topic and speak on the issue that this thread was based on.

However I disagree with you downplaying the "gimmick-rappers" and writing them off.

V-Nasty parlayed her way into a retail album that was big enough to actually get a review on this very website that we post on, let's not forget that.

I sense a shift in the culture based on my own personal observations and I believe that the trends we see in 2011 will continue into 2012 and you will see less artists who represent the streets getting the same level of visibility as the influx of homo/emo/euro rappers or the suburban-frat rappers like Wiz/Miller

off top correct me if I'm wrong but the top sellers this year:

LiL Wayne, Jay/Kanye, Drake, J.Cole, Wiz Khalifah, Lupe, Emenim/Royce, Wale, Mac Miller, Beastie Boys.......now were are the streets being represented in that lineup??

The imbalance is becoming more prominent and I'm just stating my observations regardless of if people weep and catch feelings.

If we watch today's trends we can effectively gauge the direction of the music and make adjustments accordingly.

Wow....emotions still getting caught. I seriously don't believe the overall theme of this thread it's about racism. But since you brought that topic up..

The funny thing is racism was never buried. You just can't go to sleep and wake up and *POOF* it's gone.

Time to play Devil's advocate: What if ALL the Hip Hop was White oriented and a Black artist with came in and was crowned the best thing in the culture...would you let 'em live?
