Look at the initial post...and read the article I posted.

It's long as shit, though. But a very good read, detailing how Pac pretty much marketed himself as a "thug" because it would make him a viable rap star, which would in turn, make him sell records.

Why are we even arguing about Pac's success, when NONE of it was based on anything organic?

So its okay to celebrate the success of a thug rapper as long as he really is a thug? At least the fake only rapped about killing black men and selling drugs to black women, and didn't actually do it. Tupac had to play up the violent black male image to sell because that intrigued both black and white fans. He is celebrated because he was conscious enough to speak out on social issues, and drop a few socially responsible songs.

I know he did. I'm born & raised Brooklynite,. I remember when All Eyez On Me dropped mad homies in the hood copped it.The so called East vs West "beef "was nowhere near a big a deal as the media made it out to be. But yeah at the height of the "beef" Big was getting more plays over here but like I said I'm sure Pac was getting more plays over there.

Neither is right, per se. But it would be kind of odd for someone to speak on that thug life, if they haven't lived it...as opposed to someone who DID live it. Atleast, in regards to the latter, it's authentic.

The whole "transforming yourself to fit what's hot" is the exact reason why we have an entire generation of wannabes and fakes now.

That's a matter of opinion. I was around at that time & Pac was EVERYWHERE. I would go as far as saying that he was Hip Hop's first genuine worldwide superstar. Don't get me wrong Snoop, Wu Tang & all the others were selling millions & superstars in Hip Hop but when Pac got that NO.1 album in jail (beating America's sweetheart Bruce Springsteen) then came out & signed to Death Row his star status catapulted. All Eyez On Me in my opinion was Pac's magnum opus. It was all eyes on him, that's why along with the Fugees 1996 is considered one of the best,if not the greatest year in Hip Hop. Pac/Pac's death & The Fugees made 96. Alot of people will disagree & hate what I said but that's how I remember things AND I'm from Brooklyn...That's another myth that I want to put to bed right now. PAC DID HAVE FANS IN NEW YORK. I laugh when young cats who weren't around talk about how Pac don't get love out here..cut it out please.

what other rapper is outselling Bruce springsteen, IN JAIL

me against the world is a classic btw

Hey you don't need to tell me about Me Against The World, it's his second greatest album in my opinion.

Did you bother to read the opening post? Or the link I posted? Redundancy bothers me LOL.

The initial post (and link post) pretty much explain how Pac transformed himself into a "gangsta" type rapper, in order to become popular.

Clearly, nothing about Pac was authentic...but somehow, we give him a pass.

pac should be more recognized for the mission he had which he didnt complete...he said even hisself the reason he took on that thug persona was to reach the disenfranchised lost youth

I wouldn't say nothing. His thug persona was fake. Absolutely. It got him in the door, and once inside he used that platform to talk about police brutality, drug addiction in black families, teen pregnancy, black on black crime. etc etc.

His social activism was more genuine than any other mainstream rapper past or present. He came from black panther stock, and put his entire career and freedom on the line to shoot two off-duty cops who were harrassing a black motorist. That's real to me.

Pac is my favourite rapper of all time... and to me personally the GREATEST OF ALL TIME (GOAT)

When Nas was asked to describe Pac in one sentence, these were his words: "... better than Shakespeare"

Pac is the only rap nigga that brought a tear to my eye with his music (I was going through shit at the time) with 'I Wonder If Heaven's Got A Ghetto'...

He still the realest nigga in rap... he exposed his soul to the world, with no frills... his passion for the music is timeless (still unreleased songs 14 years after his passing)

He was human like all of us and made dumb mistakes (who hasn't?)... but like someone said in another thread like Marley to Reggae, MJ to pop, J. Brown to soul... Pac is that dead personification of hip hop music
