Why should he go platinum?

99% of HipHop artists don't even go Gold.

The last time a non crossover artist went platinum was Young Jeezy back in 2006 with "The Inspiration",

This is 2012, last year only 4 rappers went platinum and 4 went Gold.

The year before that only 2 rappers went platinum and 5 went Gold

Hopefully he can resist the temptation to cross over and go platinum by going POP.

To be honest he has been trying to go pop wit da singles his whole career since his first album he has got rnb acts on his singles going for a soft sound.

You're a liar.

Their is no crossover using RnB artists, the Billboard charts even categorize songs as HipHop/R&B, if you want to go POP then you need to get a POP artist or a white chick so you can crossover to the Pop charts.

B.O.B feat Hayley Williams

T.I. feat Christina Augeleria

50-Cent feat Justine Timberlake

Lupe Fiasco feat Skylar Grey

Emenim feat Pink

JayZ feat Chris Martin

Kanye West feat Mr Hudson

^^^^that's how you reel the buying demographic in and get them to notice your project....let Em feel like they are a part of the movement.

If Ross wanted to crossover by any means necessary, he could easily throw Alcia Keys or Rihanna on a hook. He'd get a hit single and possibly a platinum album much quicker than working w/ any of those artists. Jay Z's Alicia Keys assisted "Empire State of Mind" is his biggest single. T.I., Jay, Em, and Kanye all had some of the biggest singles of the careers w/ Rihanna on the hook. The songs those artists did w them are bigger than any of the songs on the list. Plus the albums that featured singles w/ Rihanna and A. Keys sold far more than the albums in that list.

Why do you think people are so obsessed with Ross going platinum when 99% of rappers don't even go Gold?

Isn't it odd that the discussion is about sales instead of songs....I did a thread about this.

Why should an artist just throw a random singer on an album to get sales instead of jjust working with artists who they choose?

Kinda sad rap has been reduced to this.

See u still lame and just kicking less than fact based knowledge. Whatever U Like is T.I.'s biggest single ever. Did that all alone. Ross has made several songs with singers from John Legend to others. The dude is really hard to stomach to sensible beings. If Ross wants to widen his horizons he needs to kill the drug talk, end of discussion.

I see you still that naked white kid in your avatar.

"Live Your Life" feat Rihanna is T.I.'s biggest single ever but some people are too stupid to realize that fact.

^^^^^^^Next time get your facts straight.

Ross needs to continue doing what he's doing and resisit the temptation to please people like you.

WIth GFID, I think Ross wants to go further as far as fanbase, but I don't think he'll necessarily go Pop to do it. When The Source interviewed him last year, he said he wanted to expand his sound. Before that included to work with Tim, Pharrell, and Dre

People are obsessed because sales and features are the only things that can be used against Ross. Personally as long as Ross keeps making good music, the sales don't matter. I don't even think Ross puts much thought into what the album sales as much as he does organically expanding his sound. I'm basically saying, he could easily do a calculated song that's a Billboard Top 10 hit if he wanted to. He and Rihanna are labelmates and he performed on stage w/ Alicia Keys at last years BET Awards. If he wanted, I'm sure those collabos could be arranged especially since he's got a lot of people in the industry ridin' with him.

Lmao. Y is it everytime a Ross thread is up some damn Ross stan gotta compare his shit to 50 cent's shit smh. Ross(Rich Forever) aint fuckin wit 50 cent's The Big Ten mixtape. Furthermore 50 got over 30 million sold. Til Dick Floss does those numbers shut the fuck up

That makes sense because I was starting to think people were actually stupid and forgot that 99% of rappers don't even go Gold nowadays and only a couple crossover and go platinum a year.

He should stick with his formula that got him 3 Gold albums in 6 years, Soulful lush production, street-bangers, chick songs, soul-singer features and no pop features.

HipHop is headed towards a dangerous space were labels feel the need to throw the token UK artist or pop chick on every album by it's major artists in desperation to get that Gold or platinum....I never thought HipHop music would look like this:

Lupe feat Hayley Williams

T.I. feat Christina Augeleria

Dr Dre feat Skylar Gray

Nicki Minaj feat Natasha Bedingfeild

Gucci Mane feat V-nasty

50-Cent feat Nicole Sherzinger

2-Chainz feat Kreayshawn

WTF is up with this new POP gimmick were these POP chicks find there way onto HipHop albums?

Nope I doubt he will go GOLD.

He's a hot artist but that doesn't translate to sales.

I say Ross will does Gold based on his fan base alone as far as him going platinum I seriously doubt it. He has yet to go platinum and I doubt that it happens anytime soon. I've said in the past if you're in the mainstream and your name is not Em, Kanye, Jay-z, Wayne, or Nikki (she's gone pop route now) then they ain't doing platinum. Sales climate has drastically changed since the early 00's.
