The last time a non crossover artist went platinum was Young Jeezy back in 2006 with "The Inspiration",

Their is no crossover using RnB artists, the Billboard charts even categorize songs as HipHop/R&B, if you want to go POP then you need to get a POP artist or a white chick so you can crossover to the Pop charts.
