So is it safe 2 say that Distant Relatives is the 1st classic album in a long time???

No such thing as a "classic" three days after its release.

You young'ins are too quick to throw around the word classic...

...as if quality over time is not implied by the word "classic"

So what about illmatic? I'm sure there were ppl who heard it when it first came out and called it a classic. They weren't wrong.

That they weren't eventually incorrect does not mean that they used the term correctly.

[sigh] Kids.

I repeat. No such thing as an instant classic.

Some classics need time to tell (Supreme Clientele, The Documentary, Atliens, Wu 4ever, IWW) and then you have those rare ones that are instant (Illmatic, OBCL, Ready to Die, Infamous, Reasonable Doubt, Chronic). This album joins the latter in my opinion. Even though I'd heard most of the tracks since I lack self-control, I did my part and copped the album.
The cohesion, lyrics, content, chemistry, balance, beats and epic feel is what makes it an instant classic. Nas is GOAT so he almost always on point, extends his 'untitled' message to the world view but Damian really shines, holds his own and complements Nas really well. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the My Generation hook, other than that, everyone comes correct. Africa must wake up, Tribal wars, Patience and Strong will continue are my joints.
Nas is a rare artist, really separating himself from the rest right now; the haters will hate but the real already know what it is.

I like it but its definatly more Marley then Nas in terms of style..............It feels like a Jr. Gong album with a whole lot of Nas guest spots

Which, for me, is fine...........But I understand why alot of people dont really get it and there predicting such low sales, you really have to like Raggae to get into Distant Relatives

Really? I think its time for you to go back and listen again. The shit goes over most people's heads the first time. Every single time you listen to it you catch more and more shit... I know I've listened to it over 100 times by now and I'm still learning more each time.

I really honestly can't choose between Untitled and Distant Relatives. They're two COMPLETELY different albums.

C/S. The only thing similar with the 2 is that they're both banging.

If its not universally accepted as a classic,fine..its a instant classic in my personal opinion..Too many strong joints on this album to be denied..Patience,friends,Africa must wake up,only the strong,etc..Nas really has a strong catalog

It takes guts to release positive music in a era where you can be whiteballed for being uplifting
