song is garbage fantasy rap. The level of fakeness of Ross is just unacceptable to my ears and mind, and Nas isn't too far behind him. Still narrating from his parents window. I mess with them both of some levels but I ain't hearing this fantasy trash

In this verse Nas basically said he dabbled in that shit and concluded it wasn't for him. Not really a wild fantasy. He's said this before.

What is so hard to believe that a dude tried to sell Drugs but realized he was not up to par with it?

People have a tendency to over hype Nas pre-album buzz. Yes, this track is fire. But Nas always drops pure heat prior to the release of an album, and then the album comes out and it's subar, and he's back to where he was at. Unfulfilled potential. He'll always be nice. One of the best to ever do it. But he hasn't been very good at making albums for a while now, let's face it.

homie I respect ya opinion , but i dis agree whole heartedly..
besides the double album, every nas album to come out was fire..

Nas is so overrated it is crazy and I like him as a rapper. He is so wishy-washy and quick to switch up his persona it is also saddening. Nas just moves like a lost person and I am not even big on that he lost stuff. Like I said fantasy rap. He on a track with the biggest fantasy rapper in the game so they both rap about drugs and hustling there fantasy lives. You clowns believe anything these fantasy rappers say also. I guess he went from robbing foreigners for there green cards to trying to sell dope, and I guess you will believe it all? What fools. I don't even care about street cred, but the fake dudes like Nas and Rozay are just hard to listen to. Why not be like Rakim? He said I used to be a stick-up kid one time and I never heard him mention it again. Finally, how does it matter that Nas grew up in the biggest project in America? If you ever been in a project you know that just serves to make him more of a follower and further points to why he lost, not why he has street cred. A bunch of niggas standing around feeding each other random nigga bullshit fucking up each others minds.

I'm not going to defend Ross here, but you haven't addressed the point that has been made several times in this thread that Nas is talking about how he dabbled in the hustler lifestyle and realized it wasn't for him. Secondly, you can't criticize the man just for being on a track with Ross talking about drugs. The track is called "Triple Beam Dreams" which is clearly homage to Nas' verse on "Eye for an Eye" from '95 where he opens, "A drug dealer's dream, stash CREAM ki's on a triple beam...". It makes sense Ross would want Nas on this track, and it's only appropriate that he would talk about the hustler lifestyle in the past tense versus the way he raps about it in the present tense back in '95.

This is a great track man, just appreciate real hip-hop. If Nas isn't allowed to rap about his history with crime, then who is?

Who "believes" everything Nas says here? Nas is the first to admit It Was Written is a concept album and I'm pretty damned sure almost all of his fans know that he wasn't doing everything he was rapping about on that album. The whole Mafioso/Scarface culture that inspired that album is nonetheless a part of Hip-Hop, and a celebrated part of it, even if we all know it's "fantasy." It's that kind of ambitious romanticizing of crime that inspired so many street thugs to get out of the hood.

It matters because we are talking about an impoverished, dangerous upbringing that informs this man's entire career. You can call Nas fake as much as you want, but when the rest of us hear him reflect on his past and contrast it with the facts of his present, we get the picture of an MC who has matured and acknowledges change and growth, but while not forgetting where he came from and how he got there. What could possibly be fake about that? It sounds to me like you are looking for a reason to hate on Nas more than you actually have one. If you want to hate on Nas, then do it like everyone else and focus on his personal relationships and business practices. The man's artistry should be of no question at this point.

I don't hate Nas at all as I have stated I like him as a rapper. On the other hand, as I also stated why not be like Rakim and only mention your past deeds once and keep it moving? Nas dibbles and dabbles in the street persona when it is beneficial to him, not because it is just a part of him. Nas is really just as trendy as people that get called on it.

That would box him in and make Nas a one deminsional rapper..

Everybody knows Nas aint no one deminsional rapper..

Just aint his M.O.

an artist should be able to talk about everything under the sun..
