On that vacation. DR is cool and just because they have a different racial stratification system doesn't necessarily make them 'coons'. You also gotta take their history into account. They were briefly ruled by 'black' Haitians, had a war with 'em and were ruled by a dictator, Rafa Trujillo, that committed genocide on 'black' Haitians not too long ago. To selfidentify as 'black' was almost the same as identifying as Haitian and that was not done during Trujillo's reign. We got alot of Dominicans in my native island Curacao.

While DR is a cool vacationspot, I think you'd like either Aruba or Curacao better. Alot Americans go there, most natives speak English, the islands are cleaner than DR and infrastructure is way more advanced. You'd like Aruba better than DR I think.

Only exception might be the geechis in Carolina...

AA's have had no successful slave revolt in all those years, while there were and still are plenty 'maroon' societies all over south and central America.
