Sooooo... I saw this Black militant dude explaining why he referred to some White folks as "CRACKERS", and he explained it was because in slavery times, Whites were the ones who would "crack" the whip when they punished the slaves and the name stuck.. So, he calls them "crackers" because they earned the name. But, I also heard somebody give a different explanation for the term "cracker".... Does anyone know the TRUE origin of that term? Also, WTF is a "HONKY"??? And why did we rearrange the word "woodpecker" and turn it into "peckerwood" when referring to caucasians? Anybody know the origin of these terms?

cracker is from whip cracker, honky is from honky tonk, a 1940s western film, and i dont know about peckerwood because that one sounds homo and i never use it.

all of this seems reasonable to me. though honky tonk is also a genre of music descended from country and western which is generally "country music"
But as for peckerwood (which is probably the 3rd time I even heard about this word), I'll "read" from Eldridge Cleaver's "The Allegory of the Black Eunuchs" in Soul On Ice (btw, a funny and great read even though it is really fucked up. I recommend it for everyone). This quotation might shine some light:
