Today I heard that according to census numbers that there are 50 million Hispanics in America. Then I thought to myself, how many of those 50 million Hispanics are actually of African descent, but they're claiming another race because they're surname ends in a "z", and they speak Spanish.
I am in no insinuating that any of else celebrities have ever done it, I'm just using their picture as an example. If you were to ask what race these people were, most people would tell you black. However, a lot of Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Brazilians, and cats from other parts of Central and South America have a problem with acknowledging their African heritage.
For example you'll often hear blacks from Hispanic countries say that, "I'm black and Dominican", or "I'm black and Puerto Rican". The thing is that problem who say things like this have the complexion and facial features of black people. The ones that will African features will often claim their nationality, claiming it as their race; for example, people from Spanish speaking countries of African descent will say their Puerto Rican, Cuban, Colombian, etc. They confuse nationality with race. It doesn't help matters that there isn't a nigga to be found on Telemundo or Univision. For these people to say their black and Dominican or black and Puerto Rican is analogus to a Jamaican or a Haitian saying he's black and Jamaican or black and Haitian. Nigga, stop playing. The Census bureau needs to group these people correctly. Language doesn't not constitute a race. The black hispanics, need to be grouped with blacks. Charlie Sheen and Gloria Estefan need to be grouped with whites. Those landscaping and dish washing niggas need to be group with Indians. I don't know how you would group muthfuckas like JLo and A-Rod. If these people were catergorized properly, then we would find out their aren't 50 million Hispanics in America.
