Bullshit, it don't matter if the beat been sampled 37,000 times. If that shit wack it's wack and it fuck up the SONG. The SONG is everything included. I don't ignore shit, everything need to be on point. Pimpn, the hook and beat don't even need to be great but it needs to be decent and not wack. And i'm not speakin about my opinions on a song that's different than everyone else's. I'm talking about when we all know tha chorus and hook bullshit. I won't ignore the beat if it's wack. I ignore the entire song cuz it make the song wack.

if the beat and chorus, which is included in the song, is wack then i don't like song. I just like the verse. A verse by itself doesn't make a SONG. No genre of music, including hip hop, consist of a verse alone being the entire song.

If you listen to ANY rapper, he/she will often rap about his/her own ability to rap. They don't rap about guitars, drums, and other things musically related, except for maybe a reference to a producer. If you want good MUSIC then you should listen to other genres with more dynamic instrumentation/compositions.

today imo the beat/hook have taken precedence over lyrics in hip hop... there are really no great song writers
or great craftsmanship taking place in the game. producers rule. beats are recycled. and the true lyricist are becoming extinct.

Rap is not pop! Them who mix the two should stop...at first I wasn't feeling the T/S but, I understand the point.
On the other hand it's gotta be an 'eye of the beholder' thing. People have mental or emotional ties to the type of music you speak of.
Gucci manes lyrics at times have no vibe. I'm in the car with my brother he has this one song on repeat, his point is the passion and conviction of gucci manes bullshit is what he enjoys, he also likes the flow, the beat, the chorus, and he admits the lyrics and content are shit.
I think that's insane but, I like currensy who may have no chorus, or he has a hook I think is dope, nice beat, and my brother is like turn that shit off put that nas on...I'm like really? It's gotta be a mental thing.

In the realm of hip hop music the beat should only “compliment” the MCs lyrics , not over shadow them.

And the chorus/hook should NOT be written first just to have something catchy to sing along too.

The chorus/hook should only be there to "supplement" the lyrics…...bridge the track together

I don't care about tha beat or tha hook as much as tha lyrics, message and overall vibe of tha song. I don't want some terrible "I made this with Fruity Loops with shitty preset sounds" ass beat, but I also don't look for tha epic ass production Jeezy and Ross go for. I'm not saying those beats aren't good at all, some of Ross' beat selections are incredible. But there's limited meaning to what they say on those beats. I still listen to that kinda style when tha time is right tho.

Tha Golden Era of Hip Hop that we all love wasn't made around tha beats, it was made off creating good vibes in tha song and delivering actual messages. I think a well produced simple or slightly above average beat brings out more artistic expression from a good artist because they actually have to concentrate on tha lyrics for it to work. If somebody played some Gucci vocals without a beat it would be terrible. If somebody played you some Nas or Jay acapellas without tha beat you can still find gems in there. But if somebody played you a Gucci, Jeezy or Ross instrumental you can enjoy that shit, if it was a Nas instrumental it would be nothing special.. Basically, Some people want something to "stimulate their ears", I want something to "stimulate my mind".
