you dont know if you will make it to the steakhouse tonight. You dont even have any solid proof to support that belief at this point in time. Just because you like steak, doesnt make it true that you will b there tonite to enjoy it. You believe you will, because you want it to be true. Just as a person who believes in God, yet has no evidence to support that belief at this point in time. There is no difference, a belief, is a belief.

I think people dont realize just how much we really are no different from each other.

I have reservations. That is pretty solid 'proof'.

If you do not see the difference between beliefs rooted in evidence and the real world with those unhinged from these consideration ... well then you are delusional.

reservations are not proof that you will be at the steakhouse tonight. It is only an extension of your belief that you would like to make it to the steakhouse tonight. It is no different
from the Christian holding the bible as proof that God exists.

i knew it wouldnt take long for you to resort to name calling/personal attacks..Its the usual thing people do when they know they have been defeated...its cool tho, this isnt abt you, nor i.

First it is not name calling but a reiterations of set of beliefs that are unhinged from reality. Second it is an actual true statement. It is conditional on you being unable to identify beliefs based on reality and those not based on reality, which would make any person delusional by definition. All delusions are in facts beliefs but they are not held on some equal footing as beliefs rooted in reality and on facts.

While several events could interupt by dinner plans it remains a highly probable event. Further I could convince you that the event will occur by sharing simple facts such as my dinner reservation and my preference for New York Strip. In turn it would be quite trivial for you to share the same belief. In fact I could convince prety much anyone in the world to share this belief if I was able to communicate with them.

You can evalulate beliefs by their degree. For instance Hyde would you bet me $500 I will not have that New York Strip tonight? I will happily bet you $5000 there is no personal God as defined by the Holy Bible. This manner of placing worth on beliefs is used in game theory.

While I grant you that the lunatic that believes he is Napoleon, the religious person who believe the rapture is coming in 2012, the theist who believes there is a personal God, and the person who believes he will have steak for dinner each holds a belief these beliefs can be judged on the validity and supporting evidence.

I appreciate how patient whar67 always is with these dummies. I'm too mean to explain the same obvious shit over and over again to people who don't want to learn.

And if you're going to refer that, then you have no right to deny other gospels and books of the bible, seeing how they too were inspirations of God and not chosen due to a vote

"The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all."
Psalm 103:19

have you honestly thought about why things do and do not happen in life?

It doesn't bother you that there are 66 books in the Holy Bible? One digit away from the number of the beast?
No it doesn't. Why should it? 666 is 666. 66 is 66. 2 different numbers my friend.

Yeah, I got some land up for sale, 5 bucks an acre. You down?

The meme you are using is an offer to sell something that you do not posses. The reader knows you do not possess it since it does not exist. The most common version of this is 'ocean front property in Arizona'. You failed in the use of this meme as the item you picked does exist and possesses great value.

You got the point Whar. You believe anything man will tell you. If the anti-christ appeared today, you would believe he was God. Tragic.

"The man of sin will come with the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous and wonderful signs. But they will be lies. 10 He will use everything that God disapproves of to deceive those who are dying, those who refused to love the truth that would save them. 11 That's why God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe a lie. 12 Then everyone who did not believe the truth, but was delighted with what God disapproves of, will be condemned." 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

If this happened today, what would you do?

you can spin this however you want to, to support your belief. The fact is, you have yet to get to that steakhouse. At this point in time, you have nothing to support that you have attended, and wont until you have actually arrived. What you have, as you stated, is a reservation, which is not proof that you are there. Do you agree? Yes, the probability that you will make it there, is very high. It is no different than the man who believes that there is God, yet hasnt actually seen God yet. We have different views on the matter, Whar, but one thing I will not do, is stoop to calling you names because of our differences. For quite some time, people believed the world was flat, and that it was absurd to think otherwise. Yet it was proven to be false. We must be careful of dismissing others that dont happen to agree with us.

For the record, my belief is not in one or the other, im just the observer.

I am sorry you feel I have insulted you. I would go back and reread what I wrote.

The statements you are making now seem to produce a paradox. You state you agree that probability can differ from one belief to an other but no difference exists between a highly probable belief and an inprobable one. I would revisit my betting analogy. You must concede that if you were to place a wager on an NFL team to win the Superbowl right now your wager would vary from team to team. This means you place different value on your beliefs. Further if your beliefs are too out of step with reality you can be punished for holding them. If you belief the NY Jets will win the Superbowl and offer to cover all wagers at 10:1 you could be right but the strength of the teams and the locations they will play indicate the Jets are a long shot to win and not a 10:1 favorite. If no difference exist between beliefs how can you be harmed by holding one over an other?

To further muddy the waters you mention the belief in a flat earth. State this belief has been proven false, which is not the case by the way. Then conclude we must be careful of dismissing others that do not agree with us. While I whole-heartedly support your conclusion I do not know how you got to it from the statements you made. For several 1000 years folks have known the Earth was round. Others held the belief the earth was flat. As evidence mounted to support the round earth belief adherence to the flat earth belief almost disappeared. This seems an excellent example of how 2 ideas addressing a common issue are not remotely equal to one an other.
