PRODIGY IS TOP 15 DEAD OR ALIVE

Prodigy isn't all that. I can literally think of 25-30 other MCs better than him, and if I put forth some real effort it'll be 50 or 60.

He has a top 15-20 legacy though. I saw that word dropped and I'll say Mobb Deep has a solid legacy but I think they are largely overrated.

its hard to make a top 15...

in no order... and the list will change regularly... shame theres no more west coast rappers in there, im massive west coast fan, just 2day on a east coast vibe, but that could change and have 8 west coast rappers in there 2moro...

Get the fuck outta here, Jay-Z fell off harder than P as a rapper. Bumpy Johnson EP is better than anything Jay released since 2003.

Em was never great.

I'll give you Rakim and Kane because although they didn't make classic music like in the 80's their rhyming skills are still sharp.

Ghostface and Raekwon both fell off but not that much.

KRS been feel off after the 80's.

Andre 3000 1 verse every 2 years doesn't count.

Haven't heard Masta Ace shit in years.

Reggie fell off after the 90's.

I'll give you Common.

Talib was never on that high of a level to begin with so who cares.

I agree with G Rap.

Either way yall are completely unfair to Prodigy. I think yall been brain washed by Jay-Z or some shit cause shit is disgusting. He's not even bad now b. All that shows you is how dope he was in his prime (which should be the most important factor). If Jay-Z put out 10 verses in a year they would all be wack as fuck. Truthfully he only has 2 or 3 hot albums yet y'all dick lick him to no end.

One, I don't like Jay and any of the dumbass shit he says. But I can't deny that's he's dope. Even his "wack" shit takes some skill to make. And again, I don't even like Jay like that, especially recently. P was one of my favorite rappers at one point, especially in the late 90s. But he wasn't even top 5 in NY in his prime when half the Wu was shittin on him skillwise (Mef, Ghost, Rae, GZA, Deck). Then on top of that he's gotta be tied with Norega for the biggest fall off in hip hop history. That nigga flow has been ass since 2001. Infamy, terrible. America's Nightmare, the beats saved it. Bloody Money, ha! ROTM is my shit, but let's face it, Alchemist was the star of that album. Call it harsh judging, but no, P isn't top 15. Especially after all the potential he's wasted. Nigga was soundin 48 at 28.

I agree with everything besides that right there, most of the tracks he did with the Wu he was shining or he at least held his own, from Infamous to Murda Musik its hard to argue anyone besides Nas, Meth's catalog wasnt up to par with his talent but you can argue he was better, Rae fell into that sophomore slump category, Ghost only had one album, Deck has classic verses for days but his first solo isnt really up to par with those 3 Mobb albums, Biggie for the time he was alive, i'll argue P was better than Jay in the 90's I wasnt the biggest fan of the Volumes, and DMX deserves a mention the way he DMX'd the game, its all opinion but I give P the nod for top 5 in NY during the 90's

masta ace still releasing music to this day, great concepts to his albums to, ras kass and most the wu could make the list to actually...

Prodigy did have one of the best deliveries from 95-99...I seriously don't know what happened (whether it was the

heavy drug dependency being a sickle cell victim or the vicious barbs from Jay-Z that shot holes in his street cred) but the way P came across during that era was so convincing and menacing, especially on Hell On Earth..his style was perfected on that album.

I'll give him top 40...considering he's on The Source's top 50 lyricists of all time list(#39)...but top 15? Naaah.

That's why I said skillwise. No doubt he was doin his thing musically, but I felt like the beats carried a lot of that, not taking away from his lyrics. Why do you think the Wu was gettin love and feature requests from everyone, even the west (Spice 1, Pac)? Same with Nas. Them dudes skills was not to be fucked with. P I think limited himself to Mobb Deep music, so I don't think he grew like he should've. Top 5 musically, hell yeah. Top 5 lyrically... not so much.

its mad hard, for me the only reason i aint put big pun in is because he took g raps style, and only had one real album while he was alive (hip hop classic at that) though i could put pun in my top 5 some days... yeah scarface should be in top 15, maaaaaaaaaan its too hard to make these lists lol

at times prodigy's voice, not lyrics, sound like rakims...

Post examples please.

You could say that P is from that Rakim branch of lyricism, but at times he sounds like Guru as well.

i dont think he sounds anything like guru... but when rakim ryhmes slow i think p sounds kinda like him, thinking about it p and rakim are both from long island... but like i say, its only now and again i hear the similarities...

Like I said.. You can't really trace P's style to anyone. That's what makes him so great. His style is his own. And people couldn't even try to replicate it.
