Cats aint gonna hear you on this but I fucking agree fam. I remember there was once a time when Prodigy was revered as an MC and people were pondering if he was potential KONY or a potential GOAT MC contender. Now mind you, whether it was folks just hyping him or him having an actual claim is entirely subjective but say what you want, he was incredibly talented & proved himself.

Part of it I feel was also motivated by the fact that during the late 90s cuz NY took a huge hit yet again after Big died, they lost Pun and Big L - 2 artists that were sooo good you couldn't deny that someday they'd be considered GOAT or surpass Biggie. As a result I think they were looking for the next HNIC which happend to be Prodigy (remember he was "new" compared to X, Nas, Jay & Ja and what put him above X was him having a better album & being a better MC) . Dude had classic albums with Mobb Deep, & his first album was incredible. To say Prodigy don't deserve a spot is ludicrous, hell if Andre 3000 can get put up there with no album I don't see why Prodigy can't.....



I know niggas won't agree with it cuz they lookin at the Prodigy from TODAY not the one from yesterday... but that's just my 2 cents....

Good post. At least you provided more than just saying he's top 15. You actually provided why, the bolded part was a strong point that I agree with. Actually made me think about it more and that shit is true. I here people saying 3 stacks is top 5, 10, etc. If that's the case, you can argue that Prodigy belongs up there too. He put more work in as a solo artist, having one gold album. 3 stacks ain't do jack as a solo artist yet gets a pass because of his talent. Group wise, Murda Muzik wasn't the best Mobb album but that was P's lyrical peak imo. He was straight destroying every verse up there. If you think about P in his prime and not who he is now, a lot of people have him in their top 10. His run from 94-00 was ridiculous.

With that being said, I think his fall off's is one of the worst in Hip-Hop history. I always felt like he could have done so much more. That contributes to me not considering him top 10. I have him ranked somewhere in my top 30, would be higher if he didn't fall off after '99. In the end, you made some good convincing points @Sion but I still disagree.
