i agree, the hip hop market has seen a huge decline in sales.
it's only a baby-sized handful of artist that will hit plat constantly.

But if you think about it.....3 platinum albums is a good career for a artist if you look at it sales wise. In my case, I don't care about sales and look at 50's career as disappointing because I judge the music and in my opinion , all of his albums after GRODT are ass. Also, I agree with L3NU... platinum rappers aren't dead, they're just a endangered species.

i disagree....when u have a handout like da cracka feminem, da old white man gay azz drez beatz & a big azz machine/jimmy iovine/interscope behind u u r suppose 2 go PLATINUM on every album therr is no xcuse lol

Come on fam' Sade is a queen and she's one of a kind, you can create a rapper with no talent in a boardroom and sell him to the masses.

There hasn't been a platinum selling West-Coast rapper in over 5 years unless you count the Black eyed Peas......

The labels don't have the patience to build brands, they want hot singles and that's why the genre is the way it is.

dont blame the LAbels for not building a brand, sales r in the shitter, to risky to build a brand just for 1 artist go plat

easier to go pop route, go gold and make money much faster but more importantly safely and doable

Platinum isn't dead. HIP HOP is DEAD. The consumers are speaking and the quality has finally caught up with rappers. The only reason Drake and Nicki went Platinum is cause they went really POP and it was their 1st LP's. I don't think it's going to be easy for them to go Platinum again. Lil Wayne last 2 albums missed Platinum and "Carter 4" keeps getting pushed back so I know YM is nervous about the sales. Ye's album barely got over the platinum hump. To me the only way you going Platinum is if you are a huge BRAND.

PLATINUM LOCKS:

Jay Z - His brand cannot be touched, no matter what he puts out it will go Platinum
KanYe - His Brand also cannot be touched, his last album did not have a #1 single yet it still went platinum
Eminem - Outside of Jay I don't think anyone breathing has as loyal of a fanbase as Em. "Bad Meets Evil" which is nothing more than a glorifed mixtape hit #1 and is going Gold.
Outkast (Group) - if they drop a group album again, it's going Platinum for sure.
Tupac/Biggie - Any remix album by them will still go Platinum as proven by their previous works.

GOLD LOCKS

Lil Wayne - I don't think he's a Platinum draw anymore, but Gold for Sure
Drake - His album shot to the top and them fell off a cliff, Nicki sold more than him, his next album most likely won't go Platinum
Nicki - The Hype is dying down, don't see the next album going Platinum
NaS - "I don't need ya'll little hoe bitches, fuck ya'll I'll go Gold wit it", He's a Gold artist now
T.I. - To much prision drama, his Platinum days are over
Lupe - He's now a Gold artist for sure
Wiz Kalifia - He's more of a singles artist but he will go Gold
B.O.B. - Can't see him selling past Gold
Kid Cudi - Gold Artist
Missy - Her comeback album will go Gold.
Rick Ross - Won't see a Platinum Plaque, he's a Gold Artist unless one of his other albums like "Port of Miami" end up Plat.
50 Cent - From 8 Million to barely Gold, his fall from grace is unreal.

Everyone else is 300k max or under. This is more proof Hip Hop been dying. When I did my "Tupac Goes Diamond" Thread, I thought about it, I don't think we will see another rap album going Diamond again. I think Tupac may be the last one unless some others get re-certified. So HRap, Platinum isn't dead, Rap is.

c4 will go plat... maybe not in a week like c3 but keep it 100

I think "Carter 4" will crawl to Platinum but Wayne's commercial sales have never been that great if you look at his career. He's dropped 8 LP's and only 3 of them went Platinum, only 1 went Multi-Platinum. He's mostly been a GOLD artist his entire career. Now singles sales, Wayne is a monster, got Platinum and Gold singles out the box, he may be Hip Hop's most successful "SINGLES" artist ever. But when talking about Album Sales, Wayne has never been a Big seller, outside of "The Carter III" he hasn't really moved units like that. NaS has sold more LP's than him and people act like NaS isn't a big seller.

I can't co-sign you on the Outkast prediction, Big Boi barely moved 250,000 and they have been out of the game so long that people have lost interest And would most likely gobble the digital singles instead of copping the whole album.

Ludacris is as good as Gold.

The reason why Waynes last two joints only went Gold were because one was an EP and the other was a Rock album, he's gonna go Plat.

I love the 4th quarter when labels are desperate and scrambling for a hit single and artists are all shook trying to find a safe release date were they won't get massacred by another rapper.

This is a do or die year for artists like Jeezy and Game, the next hot rapper is hungry and waiting to take your spot.....

Big Boi is not as commerical as Andre. If Outkast drops an LP it will go Platinum just off the fact they haven't dropped a real LP since 2003. Outkast fan base is one of the most diverse in Hip Hop. Outkast, Like Lauryn are like the Sade and Maxwell when it comes to fanbases that are loyal for Hip hop. As soon as Lauryn decides to drop, it's a lock for Platinum just like when ever Outkast decided to drop as a Group and no more solos. Big Boi album was mostly southern hardcore hip hop and it didn't appeal to the pop audience. With Andre they appeal to the pop audience so Platinum for the next Kast album is a lock. And stop the Excuses for Wayne, he was coming off a Triple Platinum album and the next album only went Gold. "I am not a human being" was a glorified mixtape so it going Gold was a success. I never said "The Carter IV" wasn't going Plat, I said that Wayne sales are not as high as people think when you look at his career. He's mostly a Gold artist, numbers don't lie. NaS is more of a Platinum artist than Wayne based on the fact he has 7 Platinum LP's and 3 of those are multi-platinum. Wayne only has 1 Multi-platinum LP. Jezzy's Platinum days are over same as The Game. but they both can go Gold possibly.
