Dope interview, props.

He pretty much sums up everything that I feel about hip hop. An artist is an artist, what you get when you buy it is them, not necessarily 'rap'. Whatever genre they're on, whatever they're feeling at present moment, it's the realness that captivates the listener, that educates them and puts them on to something relatable.

Phonte is a great emcee, one of the best of the past decade; hopefully this one will deliver, even if it's self-admitedly 'not for everyone'.

Phonte Explains Personal Growth

Phonte: With me and [Elzhi], there's an unspoken [element] of competition. Not in the sense of "I'm tryin' to out-shine you" or vice-versa, it is just that we bring the best out in each other. It's very much an iron-sharpening-iron-type situation. I know he gone' bring it, so I'ma bring it. Those are the type of things that really just makes you as an artist. With El, he's just a cat that, every verse, if I see "featuring Elzhi," I'm listening to it. I want to see what he's doing. He's one of the cats that keeps me inspired and keeps me on my toes. It was a no-brainer. Me and him had been waiting to hook up on something again for a while. With "Not Here Anymore" , it was, "Yo, let's do it."

C/S this. I've always loved hearing these two go in on a record cause as Phonte puts it "[they] bring the best out of each other". Both have different rhyming styles that compliment each other; eL's more structured and tailored in a multi-syllable pattern structure yet he's still speaking and connecting with you (i.e. not just rhyming words for the sake of it). Whereas Te brings an unconventional but conversational style intertwined with witty lines and great punchlines. He like to play on words and often breaks them down to their syllable sound too.
Also my sentiments are likewise regarding eLZhi - I've damn near got all his verses regardless if I think the song is wack, simply for the fact he's on it.

It's great to follow an artist in such depth and appreciate them on that level; that was a great interview as well… props to the interviewer who seemingly was on his game!!!

I just feel as though I could sit down with Phonte and discuss everything with him; and that's why his music is so great… I have yet to find a hip hop album on a love level that is as relatable as Connected. Great album.

Good looking out on the drop man.

Both tracks are nice. I'm gonna hold off on listening to the rest of the album until it comes out. I just hope he switches up some of the sound on the album. I know most likely he will not but it would be nice to hear him kill some different types of tracks.
