Actually, evolution isn't even about getting better. It's just about adapting to your surroundings through mutations spanning generations. You could lose inherent abilities that were better suited for one environment but not for another.

For example, wisdom teeth exist because humans were better adapted to eat plants more quickly. We still have a largely plant-based diet, but we ingest less cellulose, so wisdom teeth for better breakdown of those plants is no longer required.

Doesn't make it better or worse, it's just an adaptation to a different diet and the agricultural revolution.
