Outkast vs The Roots

Damn near two different genres of hip hop.

With the Roots being a actual live band I barely put them in as a true hip hop group. To me it is like putting Ojays vs Isley Brothers.

Outkast is a true hip hop group that changed hip hop and especially changed how people viewed southern hip hop.

Alot of people dont like Kast and think they are overrated because most of their music does not relate directly to them. Like most things that is their right to have that personal opinion. But they are a very small minority.

ATLiens is dope but I don't feel it as classic.

The Roots made 15 Albums and only won 3 grammys and 2 are in R&B categories and i have never heard anybody put Them or Black Thought in they top 10 until recently

Outkast only made 5 Albums and won 6 Grammys and all are Hip Hop and Album of the Year and MANY people would put them or Andre 3000 in their Top 10.

Even made a Diamond album...a very exclusive club to be apart of.

Them niggas ain't get so 'Popular" because they were Trendy...They were popular because they made Groundbreaking and Innovative Music.

The Roots is Great...but they're No where near Outkast and their Accomplishments

but to a True "Hip Hop Head" i could see why you would feel that way...but I Welcome Progression and pushing the Envelope and true Originality.

Even today, Outkast's style and Production techniques is still reflected in today's music. That's how ahead of their time they were.

The roots have done more for hip hop in more eras than outkast ever would. Yes an album like ATLiens could go head to head with any roots album and beat it based on your opinion. But the roots from a content, live musicianship, longevity, and consistent quality albums over the years is why i like them more overall.

Since 2008 the roots have continued to drop dope ass shit from How I Got over to UnDun to And then you shoot your cousin. Where the fuck has outkast been. Longevity and adapting in hip hop is hard to do. Outkast hasn't put out shit in years as a group. The roots continue to innovate and put on album after album still in this current era.
