One Has To Go. Raekwon,Nas,Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, or Jay Z "The one with the weakest DEBUT ALBUM"

It's about 9pm… I get to the office and I gather all the heads in the conference room. I remember who was there: @MatteoGlen [the twitter account of Matty C, then The Source's "Unsigned Hype" editor] @CeeWild [twitter account of Chris Wilder, another editor], @FrozenFiles [twitter account of Schott 'Free' Jacobs, another contemporary editor]. Everyone is nodding their heads, eyes wide, mouths open, it's hip-hop paradise. We had a pretty shitty system in there but it didn’t matter, I pop in the tape and the powerful musical magic emits from the speakers. When those funky/eerie/powerful xylophone notes from 'One Love' come on, I remember @FrozenFiles is literally lying on the floor… He can’t comprehend how good it is. None of us can. It's the best shit we’ve heard in our lives… Internally, we start debating how we’re gonna handle this. I say right away that it's gotta get a "5"

This was a tough one for me. All albums are amazing and I LOVE Reasonable Doubt.. but man I had to ex it out. OBFCL should not be voted IMO. Shit is literally perfect

I hate the whole narrative "it wasn't a classic the day it came out so it's not a classic now".... Ain't y'all the same ones who say you can't call a album a classic as soon as you hear it that it takes time??? Y'all so fickle

Only voted to see the results. Fuck this thread. Anyone voting for Rae needs to cut their eyelashes off with a potato peeler.

The only difference btw Jay and the rest was his album didn't usher in an entire sound or changed the game on a major level. It's just the best album from one of the greatest rappers of all time, nothing more.

Lyrically and sonically Jay Z's 'Black Album' is better than 'Reasonable Doubt'... if he had of stayed retired and didn't come back like Jordan with the Wizards then his legacy would have been unblemished.

I'd say that's a pretty damn big difference.

never heard it..

lol its 2016 and you havent heard ob4cl?

nope..

havent heard illmatic in its entirety either..

reasonable doubt is whatever..

but i was jus playin cuts from doggystyle and chronic the other day on the road leavin AZ..

This album has no tracks that are even remotely close to bad and there are many great songs. Raekwon is great as he always was back then. The real genius behind this album was RZA. Put extra emphasis on "genius." This is produced so damn well and it's so original too. There are no albums that can capture this sound. Only RZA was capable of such a feat. He used original samples, crafted his beats perfectly, and created a cohesive sounding album that manages to never get redundant. The outcome was the creation of an album that has high replay value, will always be original, will always sound uniquely great, and will never be matched. Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and all of the other Wu-Tang members are great. We even get to hear a guest verse from Nas on "Verbal Intercourse," which happens to be among my favorite hip hop verses of all time. Many have said that this album has a cinematic feel to it. I don't doubt it. It's basically like listening to a gangster movie. It's a one of a kind experience that never gets old. OB4CL is an essential album for hip hop fans, especially fans of Wu tang, hardcore hip hop, east coast hip hop, Mafioso hip hop, and boom bap. I recommend that you obtain this album immediately if you haven't already. You can download it illegally, buy it on iTunes, order it online, or buy it at a store. Hell, you can even murder someone that owns it and steal it (though I don't recommend it). The bottom line is that no hip hop collection is complete without this.

Your grammar is improving.

Fuck no, black album is a classic imo but there's no song on there lyrically messing with dead presidents, politics than usual, can I live, d'evils, bring it on etc and has the creativity of 22' 2s

When Big L and Jay Z did that freestyle together... Jay Z wasn't even the hottest cat on that freestyle

I question if a lot of you were really around like that when RD came out...

it is kind of like the revisionist Tupac history... I remember when he was Shock G.'s backup dancer...LOL

RD isn't even Jay Z's best album...

Only reason it is mentioned is because it is Jay Z and people want to recreate history and have him have a classic debut like Illmatic

It originally got 4 mics in the Source but the labels and fans put the pressure on and they retroactively give it a 5

LMAO...

Cosign I got a few magazines from those days in storage where they were sitting on RD ..essentially saying he was a biter and that shit was played out

I know I was around but I don't take Jay fans that was going through puberty or in middle school serious.

What does what happened 20 years ago gotta do with today??? You'll doing everything but judging the actual quality and longevity of the albums....RD gotta go becuz Jay wasn't the hottest nigga out??? Quality of albums is all opinions but niggas using everything but that to make a decision which I don't understand
