I don't think there are many jobs where you don't know the real objectives of the work you're doing; even if you can come up with a few, how many of those involve killing people or putting yourself in harm's way at someone else's command?

Most jobs in the military don't involve that. Most of them are support staff no where near harms way or doing harm

Way to completely circumvent the point.

I can't answer the question because I don't know how many jobs do it. The military is rather vague the way it is discussed here.

if i could do it all over again though...

i woulda enlisted......at the very least i'd came out with some good job training.....

i think if you go in with the mindset that you're doing ti for a check instead of some noble patriotic cause....you should be good.....basically a gun for hire......i could live with that

My boss: You see that road there that leads to that town? Well it's littered with landmines, snipers and camel spiders. I want you to drive down that in a vehicle that would be armored if we got the funds to actually do that but instead you're going to have to just improvise.

Me: Nope.

Soooooo because you get a check it's somehow less noble? Less disingenuous?

lol, don't twist my words.......

Naturally I could obliterate this troll thread.... But its really not worth pulling out my soapbox

I will say that there is not a fine line between "blindly following orders" and just doing the job, you are pay to do

And I don't know too many "respectable" organizations without a chain of command

this is a dumb discussion no matte how u slice it. Just an opportunity for niggas to low-key admit to being scared of war....lol

pull your skirts down not everyone is scared of danger.

You can walk away. I know people that left and had to comeback an get processed out but that was it. If you are deployed somewhere it is a little harder but it is just like if you were relocated by your employer.

These jihads are cut from a different cloth of insanity, they believe if they blow themselves up they getting 21 virgins in the afterlife, who the fuck want to go up against that?!

Is it really insane? How is it any more 'insane' than any other religious belief about the afterlife?

I'm referring to previous American enemies throughout history.

Something i read recently that's related:

From 1898 to 1931, Smedley Darlington Butler was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. By the time he retired he had achieved what was then the corps's highest rank, major general, and by the time he died in 1940, at 58, he had more decorations, including two medals of honor, than any other Marine. During his years in the corps he was sent to the Philippines (at the time of the uprising against the American occupation), China, France (during World War I), Mexico, Central America, and Haiti.

In light of this record Butler presumably shocked a good many people when in 1935 — as a second world war was looming — he wrote in the magazine Common Sense:

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism [corporatism]. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
