Old Heads, how many of y'all accepted that today's hip hop had passed you by?

I only judge Hip Hop as Nice or Whack. The time period doesn't matter. Is it unfortunate that the most popular MC's of today can't hold a candle to the MC's that came before them? Yes but such is life.

I always tell the older cats that diss hip hop today that they're missing out on some good stuff. It's not golden era stuff, but it's still enjoyable. And being the nigga that was always the baby in a crew of older cats, I'm a borderline old head myself, but I still can appreciate some of the music that's out now. Not saying there isn't an abundance of wackness now, but at least it's at 60/40 rather than 70/30 like it was in the mid 2000s.

Im in my 30s but still get carded. I never been on that. If I like it , I like it. I be on that Future, and all the rest. If its snappin. A lot of the people on here just frontin anyway cause they know more about the "new" artists than i do. And I freely admit i listen to it. Life still fun and good to me. I aint bitter. Fck that.

some new rap is good (schoolboy q, logic, kendrick) but most of it is trash tbh....so it's not about it passing me, it's more about it just not being all that good....most of it sounds the same with the same flow and lack of concepts

IMO, every type of Hip-Hop has its time for me. For instance, if I hear that joint that begins with "Big L rest in peace" (cannot remember that track for the life of me. I'm 22 damnit) I'll go nuts in the right setting and the same for if I heard "makin love to the money". Now individuals like Cheif Keef I cannot vibe with because he barely rhymes but there are some days I cannot stand rappin ass rappers. **shrugs**

problem with hip hop today is that its a repeat of the same old stories. even if the artist is new, they ain't bringing shit new to the table, so I heard the story a thousand times. bar a few new rappers ofcourse.

here's an example, other day I heard a Drake song on the radio, and dude was spitting, flow was on point and it was

some ill shit, but the subject of the song was bout how he can't stand being famous. its like damn b how many times you gonna talk about the same tired ass topic?

so yea hip hop needs creativity

I' ve done accept the shit, you little fatherless faggots could have this new breed of sucka emcees (ie Drake, Kendrick Lamarr, B.O.B., Kid Cudi, Wal-E, J Cole...) a nigga like me is still gonna be bumping Group Home in the whip...

I'd wait 9 months for an Ice Cube album to drop before I buy a Waka Flocka/Gucci Mane album if it dropped today and was free.

Any questions all you new rookies to Hip Hop?

I fucking love that album yo. Preemo just, I don't know. Up Against the Wall "Get Away Car" rmx just some stupid ill ass shit

we got some lazy azz beat makers nowadays

there's no real balance between songs with real subject matter and club songs especially on the radio. it hasnt always been like that

this may sound jaded but i miss the mentally unstable, eccentric emcees. these new niqqaz are so safe & pc.

kanye might be a douche but at least he's not always playing nice for the media

oh & no i dont feel like hip hop has passed me up. i feel like its regressing back to being strictly party music

I love today's hip-hop but a lot of what you little niggas listen to is not hip-hop

it's pop music I call it disco-rap.

The T/S is brokenhearted because his older siblings clowned him for listening to today's music and he couldn't take it anymore..thus the reason for this thread.

Ok, but what are the factors for determining "nice or wack"

cuz a lot of times yall base it on rapper A not sounding like rapper B (as you did w/ your question)

every human being is different & in turn every artist is (or should be), so one of the problems I see is yall expect artist to sound a certain way instead of accepting how they sound (wether you like it or not)

there are no rules to making music
