What we listen to in our headphones has nothing to do with club music, but that's just one facet of rap. Hiphop started off as and still has strong elements of braggadocio turn up music. A MC job was to hype the crowd even when battling which is similar to toasting from a deejay. Rap has grown to include more complex rhyme patterns and experimentation. I love the variety, and yes there is variety, But the organic rhythmic tribal nature of rap is still present even in the most simplistic forms. Chanting and call and response is part of our African roots.
