lol @ thinking that WASN'T a hologram now that I think about it. His lightsaber shoulda been green and this is right after Anakin's blue lightsaber exploded in the power struggle.

Silly me

safe to assume there's more lightsabers tho. Luke knows how to make em, he made the green one in a scene cut from the opening of Return of the Jedi

plus Ben Solo had a blue lightsaber in the flashback scene where its him vs Luke. I'm assuming that wasn't the Anakin lightsaber

it had great visuals but they just completely disregarded reys parents and snokes backstory and how he bcame so powerful. That kinda ruined it for me all that buildup for what? what reason is there to see episode

9 now? just to see rey and kylo fight? all the OT trilogy is gone so the intrigue goes with it[. thats why the "whiteys" are mad, and i agree. star wars is about the lore not the short payoffs thats why generations of people come to see it and learn about the history and interest in back stories/spoiler]
The verdict isn't out on who reys parents are yet. Kylo could've been lying to her.
What you heard was the answer

Thats the ""big reveal""

Ain't no deeper mystery or grand conspiracy

I hope not, but you're probably right. Rian Johnson's big thing in this film was subverting expectations. you seen it with snoke, Luke's reaction to being handed his old lightsaber, etc.

there is no hidden reveal. director said it himself

Star Wars 8 Director Compares Rey’s Parents Reveal to Empire Strikes Back

“For me, it was a dramatic choice. It was just that her hearing – and also for the audience hearing that… if the answer had been, that’s presented in this movie at least, in this context. If the answer presented to her was, ‘Your parents are so-and-so, here you go, here’s your place in this story.’ That would be the easiest thing for her to hear. And easiest thing for us to hear! Wish fulfillment. It’s like, ‘Oh, great! That’s who I am. That’s that.’ The hardest thing she could hear is, ‘No, you’re not going to get that answer, that definition.’ In fact, the fact that you don’t have that is going to be used against you by Kylo, to try and make you lean on him. You’re going to have to find the strength to define yourself and stand on your own two feet.”

“I was thinking, what’s the most powerful answer to that question? Powerful meaning: what’s the hardest thing that Rey could hear? That’s what you’re after with challenging your characters. I think back to the ‘I am your father’ moment with Vader and Luke, and the reason I think that lands is not because it’s a surprise or a twist but because it’s the hardest thing Luke and thus the audience could hear at that moment. It turns someone into a bad guy that you just hate and want to kill into suddenly, Oh my God, this is a part of our protagonist. We have to start thinking of this person in more complex terms. We need to start thinking in terms of a redemption arc.”

This is easily the best looking movie in the series..

I wouldn't be mad if Mark Hamil got a Oscar or golden globe nod for best supporting actor..

It's not a perfect movie but the things it gets right are pretty good. I might check it out again in theaters..

Question:

Did that kid use the force to grab that broom?

Also..

RIP Snoke Hefner. We hardly knew ye..*hums Krits Bury me in gold*

Annnd..

Jedi can just be like 'fuck life I'm out'? I'm not mad Luke died but I was like 'huh?' A 1000 goats to man that makes that gif 1st..

And it woulve been nice to know Leia could use the force rather than it be implied..

Leia was force sensitive since empire strikes back Luke probably trained her during the years after return of the jedi

Your probably right. I haven't watched the og trilogy since I was a kid so it was something I might've forgot about..

The millennium falcon flying through the salt caves, the hyperspace suicide shot, the kid at the end looking at the double planets/suns ala luke, the space battles, snoke's throne room, etc all were beautiful

going to see it again today.

(not a videogames nigga no more but copped battlefront 1 & 2 of the strength of last jedi)

they giving the prequels on tnt all weekend. This movie makes me appreciate them so much more. The story telling and political arcs being interwoven into Anakin's story. This shit here is just lazy and for money.

Star Wars 8 Director Had Freedom Of No Pre-Planned Story

Johnson, alongside producer Ram Bergman, recently sat down with Deadline to talk about their latest and arguably biggest undertaking to date, The Last Jedi. In the conversation, the director was questioned about whether there is a clear-cut arc that the current trilogy is going through, and surprisingly, it turns out that nothing massive was set in stone before he boarded the project:

“Not really. That’s what’s been really cool about the storytelling process. There is definitely the idea that we know it is a three-movie arc. We know the first film is an introduction, then the middle act is training, meaning challenging the characters. The third is where they all come together and you have to resolve everything.

But I was truly able to write this script without bases to tag, and without a big outline on the wall. That meant I could react to what I felt from The Force Awakens, and what I wanted to see. I could make this movie personal. I could also just take these characters where it felt right and most interesting to take them. I think part of the reason the movie feels like it goes to some unexpected places with the characters is that we had that freedom. If it had all just been planned out and written down beforehand, it might have felt a little more calculated, I suppose.”

so they dont even have an outline for the end of the skywalker saga. They just flyin by the seat of their pants apparently. no fucks given to the heritage and lore of SW. They just trying to sell porgs and green milk for star wars land opening in 2019 which coincides with the last movie. Not a coincidence.

You could tell they didn't have a plan outlined just by the contradictions between ep 7 and ep 8 on what they were implying was important. 7 had a lot of importance placed on snoke and how powerful he was, and asking who rey was, where she came from, who her parents were, why'd they leave her, etc. etc. and those were all brushed aside in ep 8 in one way or another

on second viewing 8.5/10 , if they had executed "that casino scene" better or made it shorter/tighter this would have been the perfect Star Wars movie for me. The message (military industry complex) and intent was there but the results were not that good.

But everything else is so well done to me that its all good.

lol Uncle luke with the....
