He was dressed in black throughout ROTJ like he was really about that life, so I wonder if he's shown as corrupted by power and lost his way

People loved phantom menace when it premiered.

There were many stans that tricked themselves into liking it but the reviews were the definition of mixed bag. And there certainly wasn't anyone claiming that it was potentially the best in the franchise.
