Thats how Toronto mans been talking though. Long before anything drake. Foh.

Yet Drake has never said any of those things for the first 5+ years of his career and all of a sudden he's all about the Toronto culture lol please. He's just tryna assimilate with all the artist he steals from

The Blacks here are all immigrants (Africa/Jamaica) or first generation so a lotta UK slang is just Jamaican slang.

Look man this is bigger than Drake, I'm not a fan of dude, or whatever the fuck. You're comprehension is terrible because you're a purist and can't see past your narrative whether it's ego, selfishness or hate I can't call it I don't care dude. He's still moving units and at the top of rap but the fact remains he has writers, it's known and ppl don't seem to care, they're still buying his albums. Drake is not the only rapper to have ghostwriters and surely will not be the last. Ross was exposed for not being a drug dealer and being a CO and nobody gave a fuck he became more popular after that. A top 5 is irrelevant because it's subjective and doesn't really have anything to do with the argument at hand, different eras will have different lists.

And Hip-Hop is still a business and still popular culture I'm not sure why that's so hard for you to accept. Rap music is pop music today, that's why 50 Cent can have a song like wanksta and in da club or GRODT all over the pop charts and 50 Cent by no means comes off as a pop artist, his subject matter doesn't constitute as pop but lo and behold he sold 40 million albums. If Purists had their way Rick Ross and Drake wouldn't have careers..... somewhere along the way the ideologies and perceptions shifted. I think NaS summed it up perfectly that Hip-Hop is dead and you either use it for your own gain (a la Jay-Z) or take the blue pill.

And as for Alright, you will have songs like that which speak out to the times but it's still not a true counter culture the way it used to be. Public Enemy exemplified that to a T. But when Sprite uses Alright to sell soda and hide the fact they destroy water ecosystems in third world countries *cough cough Sudan* and pay ppl nickels and dimes to do it's hard to look at it the same way. It's a lot of songs that spoke to the world and were positive that didn't see the light of day for whatever reason.

Oh, so now top 5 is irrelevant? After you just got done trying to tell me how wrong I was in my definition of it because of dated logic, and purism.

Whats really hilarious is that you can take the Hip-Hop aspect out of this shit for a second, seeing as you continue to imply that I'm a Hip-Hop purist.

Lets talk other art.

A visual artist. No actually, just any individual getting credited and accolades for some shit that isn't his is bullshit just from a humanistic standpoint.

But for context sake, If we found out Picasso had another cubist visual artist like Marcel Duchamp laying hands on his canvas, we would be getting Picasso all the way the fuck outta here for putting his name on it. A ghostpainter. The end result being beautiful would be irrelevant, because Picasso did not paint it. We would not be crediting Picasso as the co-founder of cubism. We would not be crowning him as one of the most revered visual artists of all time. And art critics always want to know, who made it.

But your probably sitting there thinking "Oh SR, it's music doe. Collaboration." You can collaborate in visual arts as well. But those collaborators aren't getting knods from rap artists decades later over wax, now are they? Picasso is, because of the paint he graced on those canvas' with his talent.

Everyone has their role. If he isn't providing the raps, the instrumentals, or the engineering to the end product, then what are we crediting him for?

I'll give you a hint. His whiny voice does not count as a talent.

what essentiallly Drake is saying is Jay dropped RD at 26...shit barely moved units.....Drake just turned 30 and is sitting on top of the game

Drake was the hottest free agent in the game upon his arrival into the mainstream. No question. He was highly sought after AND he signed to the hottest rapper at the time. There was essentially no struggle. Jay was an unknown when he dropped RD.

So Drake is bragging about nothing

Stupidest most hater ish shit I've read in a while.... first off Jay was not unknown in 96...RD just didn't move units cuz he couldn't compete in that era....2) if Jay was unknown in 96 then his hustle and grind was trash cuz Jay been around the biggest rappers in the game since 87
