The Atlanta Falcons informed the Georgia World Congress Center Authority in a letter today that the preferred south site for the new stadium is not feasible because the needed property hasn’t been acquired and said the focus should now turn to the alternative site north of the Georgia Dome, a person familiar with the situation told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Day 5 notes

Julio Jones is in mid-season form, almost unstoppable, be it on screens, deep ball or third and short situations. The opposing defensive backs will have their task cut out once the season starts. Julio caught back to back TD passes from 25 yards and 20 yards in the red zone game practice.

Chase Coffman continued his good camp with few first down catches and a 10 yard TD in the end zone practice.

Harry Douglas got more targets than any other receiver on third downs, three of which ended up being interceptions. This is some thing Falcons need to work on, so that Douglas can exploit the mismatches in coverage because of Julio Jones, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez.

Marcus Jackson continued to look good and took reps with the first team and second team. He might have an outside chance of getting on the roster if he continues to impress in the camp and preseason.

Josh Vaughan caught a nice pass on a wheel route and ran for a long TD after the catch. Vaughan and Donald Russell are getting more reps than other UDFA running backs. Steven Jackson is getting bulk of the reps with first team, followed by few first team reps for Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling.

Roddy White had a great catch in the end zone right near the line. That pass was almost knocked off by Chase Coffman who was in the front of end zone.

Levine Toilolo is very tall and it shows while catching the ball in the end zone drills.

Mike Johnson appears to be the front-runner for the RT spot, getting most of the first team reps. The competition between Mike Johnson and Lamar Holmes is likely to continue till the third preseason game. Lamar Holmes has hit a Maponga wall, with Maponga beating him again for a sack today.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority today informed Mount Vernon Baptist Church by letter Thursday that it is “officially terminating negotiations” and “abandoning its efforts” to acquire the church on the preferred site of the new Atlanta Falcons stadium, according to documents obtained by The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

According to the letter, the action was taken after the church informed the GWCCA that it had “unanimously rejected” the GWCCA’s offer of $6.2 million. The letter said that offer “was based on the highest appriased value received by the Authority.”
