Let's be real, if you are an engineering major or computer science major, chances are you will become CEO more frequently than doctors and surgeons.

Ok let's be real...list how many billionaire CEOs were one-time med students? You can't think of any? I'm sure you can think of plenty of billionaire CEOs that were one-time engineering or comp sci majors. That list below will help if you need reference.

If you are familiar with the IT world, there's a running joke that engineering majors are not studying to do any engineering but are doing management training in college instead, hence why you see all of these multi-billion dollar tech, consulting, and defense corps have management that's filled with tons of engineering majors.

i dont doubt that at all, an engineering degree and an mba are a deadly combination. but thats 150.000 USD on top. but if you go that route, you good...

Seems they become CEO's rather often, more than business majors in many cases:

What Kind of Degree Do You Need to Be a CEO?
What may be surprising to some people is that a recent study showed 21% of CEOs received their degree in engineering.

Close Link Between Engineering and Business Management
Since 1988, M.I.T. has offered a specialized crossover program between its engineering and management schools called the “Leaders of Global Operations,” or L.G.O. Graduates of the two-year program earn both a master’s degree in engineering and an M.B.A. [...]
Reflecting that, 70 percent of the school’s M.B.A. students this year have engineering backgrounds, up from 55 percent last year...

Engineers and Business School - A Match Made in Heaven
Quick, take a guess: What fraction of MBA students are engineers?
About a third, according to admissions officers at some of the top programs. It's not hard to imagine why masters programs in business administration want so many math-drenched applicants, but what's in it for the engineers?
"They may have a product idea and recognize they don't have the business skills to make it work," says Linda Abraham, who started the admissions consulting service Accepted.com, in Los Angeles, where 40 percent of MBA admission seekers are engineers....

S&P 500 CEO’s: Engineers Stay at the Top
2008 Data from Spencer Stuart on S&P 500 CEO shows once again more have undergraduate degrees in engineering than any other field, increasing to 22% of CEO’s this year.

ENGINEER TO CEO: THE DEVELOPMENT OF BALANCE
After studying the formation of more than 150 companies, and talking with the heads of ten different venture capital organizations, I've concluded that 90 percent of technology based firms are started by engineers.

Perhaps this figure isn't startling, but if we focus on the disciplines involved for engineers and entrepreneurs, we can see why so many individuals and organizations fail.

First of all, engineers are skilled in the planning, design and construction of a product. They solve challenging problems, make technological breakthroughs and develop successful products. They are stimulated by producing the next generation of a product and making it successful

Are you Nyggas really debating over this.

200,000 g's is a very very comfortable salary
150,000 g's is very very comfortable
100,000 g's is a very very comfortable salary

Problem is that finishing these majors in school is massive mental strain. Like, traumatizing type of mental strain. But I guess that is one of the last remaining ways of getting a true middle class living in this new economy.

You mentioned Forbes...how many of those surgeons or med students are making the kind of money that computer science majors with smart business sense like Bill Gates or Sergey Brin?....Zero........All these guys studied engineering or computer science. Give me a list of guys who studied medicine and pulled these figures...waiting...

Bill Gates - studied computer science at Harvard (going to Harvard equivalent to graduating any state school) ....worth $59 billion

Sergey Brin - B.S. computer science at University of Maryland..Stanford PHD candidate...started Google...worth $16.7 billion

Larry Page - B.S. computer engineering University of Michigan...Stanford PHD candidate...started Google...worth $16.7 billion

Carlos Slim - world's richest man...studied engineering at National Autonomous University of Mexico...worth $63.3 billion

Larry Ellison - Studied computer engineering and design...founded Oracle...worth $33 billion

Charles Koch - B.S. engineering....Masters in mech engineering at MIT...worth $25 billion

Actually most of the guys on this list don't have their MBA, in fact quite a lot were studying either engineering/cs then dropped out without ever getting their bachelors lol. As for inheriting companies....Huh? Most of the guys inherited the companies from their parents? Bill Gates inherited Microsoft? Mark Zuckerberg inherited Facebook? Larry Ellison inherited Oracle? Carlos Slim inherited Telmex? Sergey Brin inheriited Google lol? Did Pierre Omidyar's inherited eBay? Did Jeff Bezos inherited Amazon? etc, etc, etc.....

Where do you get these claims? This isn't some old money landed nobility type Rothschild bs conspiracy shit. Most of these mofos were relatively smart, some of the more famous ones were nerdy and socially awkward dropouts from Harvard and Stanford, quite a few are douchebags, all of them have incredible marketing skills and absolutely ruthless when they want to be.

why do people make a thread about how much money engineering/computer graduates make and then start talkin about people with master of BUSINESS administration degrees?

engineering is a good foundation for business, but the field itself is not where the money is made.

I think this is why:

Because if you look at the list of billionaires I posted, the majority of them DO NOT have their MBA. In fact quite a few of them DROPPED OUT OF COLLEGE BEFORE THEIR DEGREE. But they all have one thing in common, they were computer science and or engineering majors.

No field in itself is going to net you millions unless you turn it into a business. If you are a doctor and do not turn helping out people into a money generating business, you will be eating outta trash cans.

These guys who were into engineering and/or computer science either starting building and/or designing complex shit or coding software packages that would spawn world-beating corporations that generate billions in wealth.

Mark Zuckerberg, an unassuming 20-something computer science geek Harvard dropout with Facebook put billions in his pocket and made Facebook a digital catalyst for revolutions of countries throughout the world >>>>>>>>>> your 50-year-old frumpy doctor

Most HBCUs have a computer science program under their engineering departments. I know Howard has a decent one..

If it's anything like how employers treat engineering, they won't really give a shit as long as the school has ABET and you meet the criteria.

I'm majoring in Computer and Electrical Engineering at an HBCU, and I have at least two job offers, plus an internship I worked last summer.

Shit, we had a nigga at the Large Hadron Collider last year and everything.

A lot of the opportunities may be geared towards minorities, so you'll benefit from that as well.

"Prestigious" universities will have more opportunities, but the others will still have plenty of opportunities.

Mileage may vary for computer science majors though.

business degrees are just door openers...you can make it into the top range of salaries or you can become a supervisor in your local bestbuy, it's really what you make it, takes a lot of dedication and savviness to go far
