Why would we be mad? If anyone's excited about fake ass, participation medal accolades then more power to em.

Who I think is real has nothing to do with the topic at hand. My problem is that whole "the way people consume music now" argument doesn't sit well with me at all.

In all honestly, as much as niggas wanna claim they ride for him you'd think he'd have more platinum albums.

back in the day a gold album represented $1 million in sales, not 500,000 copies sold

as album sales increased, the platinum, multi platinum, and diamond certifications were introduced

as sales decreased, they changed the standard of gold and platinum singles

you think albums going over a certain runtime always counted as two copies once sold?

RIAA certifications were always based on how the public consumed music. nothing has changed. the standard you niggas are used to was never set in stone

"but, but cheat codes!!!"

you think artists of the 90s and 2000s didn't have the advantage over artists 20-30 years prior?

stop it

Come at me @Sion with the Im not paying for music argument. I dare you

Exactly my point. I always thought the rule was SHIPPING a million equal platinum. Every album that comes out should be platinum instantaneously just because it got a view on some website

RIAA = Shipping 1,000,000 units to retail stores = platinum

Soundscan = scanning 1,000,000 barcodes at the register = platinum

With RIAA you could ship 1,000,000 units and be certified platinum, but 6 months later 200,000 units could still be unsold sitting on shelves at retail stores.

With Soundscan, you could have scanned 800,000 units and there would be another 200,000 units on the shelf at retail stores.

Yeah they gotta change the certification to reflect the times. The fact that it was sooooooo much harder to get a platinum plaque before these changes made it seem as if people weren't consuming as much music as they used to which just isn't the case.

It's almost like if when CDs first came out they didn't count them when they sold and only kept counting casette tapes well into the mid and late 90s..but people aren't consuming music by casette like that anymore so you gotta make that adjustment.

So because most people download all their music for free that makes this all cool. Okay.

Niggas was still goin platinum even in the Internet era, as far as I'm concerned that just made it easier to see what was worth buying.
