Magnolia Slim bka Soulja Slim.

One of my favorite rappers growing up in the city. Dude's flow just got more and more polished the longer he was rapping. He made the things he was saying so believable. Earlier in this thread songs of him was posted but he really started getting shine once he signed with No Limit. That was huge because a lot of people including myself thought he would sign with Cash Money. I can only imagine how he would have sounded on Mannie Fresh beats around that time. However it was still huge because No Limit and Cash Money were the biggest labels in the city. He was first featured on a No Limit album when Master P dropped the Down South Hustlers Compilation. It was a song called You Got It. It had been released on EP by Slim called The Dark Side in 1995 with Down South Hustlers coming a few months later.

His first album with No Limit was Give It 2 'Em Raw. If I'm not mistaken when this album came out he was in jail. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. He went to an instant favorite for me as a rapper on the tank. He only shot one video for it and carrying on the soldier theme that No Limit had at the time it was only fitting. He also mentions in his 3rd verse him doing songs with UNLV and Lokee who was posted earlier.

A few tracks from that album that were my favorites.

Wright Me

Only Real Niggaz

Imagine Feat C-Murder, Mac (Mac killed this btw)

Get High With Me Feat. Mystikal and Trenitty

N.L. Party (the obvious No Limit posse cut)

As I've mentioned before on here it seems more than a few rapper's second albums were more personal and Slim's second album with No Limit The Streets Made Me is a testament to that. For me this is his classic. Not too many features, the production and songs were top notch. I've posted the whole album. If you've never heard it, just let the whole thing ride through. I promise you won't be disappointed. Its really that good.

Sadly this was his last album on No Limit but it was for the better because he was able to do his music his way and push Cutthroat Commity which was his company with rappers from the city and surrounding areas. In the early 2000s, Slim, BG (with his Chopper City Records) and Wayne (with those Sqad Up Mixtapes) had the streets on lock for real. That's really all you heard.

Slim dropped this album called Years Later which allowed him to find his sound. It was really some of his best music.

Check the playlist below. You can change each track with this one. Really good listen.

Now after Years Later he dropped Years Later...A Few Months After which was distributed by Koch Records at the time. It had a few tracks from Years Later but included new tracks. This was gonna be the album that was bring him back into the spotlight doing it his own way. This album makes me mad because he dropped it in August 2003 and sadly was killed in November 2003.

Love Me or Love Me Not (this video gives me chills every time I watch it)

Here are a few tracks that always got played.

Heata On Me Feat. B.G. & Lil Real One

Yeahh

I'll Pay For It (hoes go crazy over this song)

I got 3 50's and 8 20's

U Bootin' Up Feat. Juvenile (classic track. glad to see them two do this track and Slow Motion)

Magnolia

Comitty Feat. Cut Throat Comitty

I'll Pay For It Remix Feat. Mystikal (this remix was huge)

Slow Motion was originally Slim's song but the song I heard was like 2 mins long. The song blew up when Juve released it on his album Juve The Great with Cash Money.

B.G. - Slow Motion (Remix) Ft. Soulja Slim, P Town Moe, MT

Off of a dvd called New Orleans Exposed, had some footage of him in the studio with BG and his funeral. Look at all the people that came out to show love and check BG and KLC in the vid too.

I know he ain't from the Boot but both his albums were N'awlins top to bottom. RIP to one of my favorite, and most underrated, rappers from my childhood
