@BobOblah I got hold of those tapes you dropped in here early last year

Son HAS put in great work

LIG

word I still haven't even heard em all. Like that Talk of NY track is in there, but I never heard it until someone posted it in this thread

What's crazy is NaS has been going in on Features since last summer. I've already heard some of my boys complain that there aren't enough "Hip Hop Beats" and that the album is a little to "Orchestra". I explain to one of my boys that this was the transition NaS was making from "Street's Disciple" until now. If you notice he's been using more and more live instrumentation. That has a lot to do with Saleem cause obviously he's very musical. But there is some gutter NY Hip Hop on here like "NaSty", "The Don" and "Loco-Motive". Again this could change as time goes on but This definitely ranks in the Top half of NaS's career to me:

ILLmatic - 5 MICS

STILLmatic - 5 MICS

It Was Written - 4.5 MICS

I Am - 4 MICS

Life Is Good - 4-4.5 MICS (Haven't decided, but it's no less than 4)

God Son - 4 MICS

Untitled - 4 MICS

Hip Hop Is Dead - 3.5 MICS

Street's Disciple - 3.5 MICS

NaStradamus - 3 MICS

Compilations

The Lost Tapes - 5 MICS

Distant Relatives - 4 MICS

The Firm - 3.5 MICS

QB's Finest - 3.5 MICS

Musically this is nas best album.

Lol nah, Illmatic is still superior musically. And that's just on influence alone. Rock musicians have been inspired by that album.

Overall beautiful album. Sounds like a 90s album updated in 2012. Nas went in on this. Production A1 and matched his lyrics well. Queens Story, World's An Addiction, Back When, Stay, Cherry Wine, and Bye Baby are by far my favorite tracks on first listen.

I personally don't think Street's Disciple has much to do with the change. For one, Hip-Hop Is Dead is very sample heavy and plays more like a traditional rap album. Although I do think Salaam is part of the reason this album seems to rely more on live instruments, I think it has more to do with Nas' desire to give a 90s feel rap album a fresh and organic spin, and the fact that No I.D., who handles half the production, has been cultivating this live instrument-heavy sound under the wing (or alongside) Kanye West since 808s & Heartbreak.

Buckwild came through as well on "You Wouldn't Understand," the beat is reminiscent of his work in '95 with Kool G. Rap, Big L, and AZ. It has the laid back feel of tracks like"Ho Happy Jackie"

Bout 4/5 tracks of filler but overall another banger from Nas. Summer on Smash just fucked the flow all up get that outta there. World's An Addiction been on repeat all morning

It's a GREAT album but not a classic. It's Nas' best album since Gods Son though, for sure. Lol @ people saying its better then Stillmatic though. Not one song on LIG is more witty then Rewind, as powerful as Ether, or as sick as One Mic.

To be honest, it's not better then WTT either.

Otis > The Don

Primetime/No Church in the Wild > Any track on LIG

Jay won this round.

Lmao at this cat comparing a deeply personal album about life, marriage, success, and fatherhood to Jay and Kanye's famed-obsessed glamour party. This isn't 2001 anymore man. Fast forward 11 years and let it go. Jay's not even in Nas' peripheral these days. They're on different planets.

Incredible album. Best rap release I've heard this year. At least 4 mics for me.

Imagine if Nas actually does that rumoured album with Premo next?

Sadly looking back I kinda knew that the drama in Nas life would get the creative juices flowing, its easy for a millionaire to get complacent and not have that same fire and hunger especially when you been in the game 20 years.

I think Nas has solidified his legacy, he might not be the best at hustling in the industry but as far as rapping is concerned he's the best.
