Bryan Cranston Hasn't Done Enough Feature Films For Me To Put Him In The Elite List Of Actors But Dude Is A BEAST On BB...Definitely Deserved Every Emmy On His Mantle

So you have to be in films to be an elite actor - that means Sarah Jessica Parker should be owed her Oscar now - right?

Fortyacres&amule knows what i'm talking bout. I watched the John Adams joint yesterday and I was already a fan of his. Thats what prompted me to create this thread.I recently seen the flick where he was a Lawyer/ high school wrestling coach which took him up a notch, then the John Adams portrayal took it over the top. I'm talking bout dude went in. Had me choked up fo real in a scene where his wife of 54 yrs died. Aint too many people messing with dude. Not to mention the fact that dude is getting these roles based on his looks like s lot of actors on some peoples lists.

WTF? How do you make this leap??

Of course elite actors have to be doing feature films....the best of the best are in feature films. Being a great TV actor doesnt equate to being a GREAT film actor.

Haven't seen Drive or Lincoln Lawyer. Totally forgot he was in Contagion and Red Tails. The guy deserves nothing less than a leading role.

And on another topic, Leo was GOAT in Basketball Diaries. He cemented it for me with that film.

lincoln lawyer was some good shit. matthew mcconaughey got some chops...thought he lost em after a time to kill.

Gonna stream this tonight. Been meaning to watch it since it came out.

@ rage: I disagree. A great actor is a great actor, no matter the medium...tv, film, stage..whatever. There might be different logistics involved but that doesn't change the actors abilities.

I would have to agree with this because it doesn't matter what medium they are performing through, as long as the acting is good. It's also proven that theatre actors are the most respected of their kind as it requires a great memory and continuous acting even if you make mistakes. That's why you see so many good theatre actors jumping to the big screen (more money) or going back to theatre to hone their craft.

I didn't say he was a name.. I said he's elite because he plays every role solid to great. Not every elite actor is bankable theres other things that go into what type of role he lands besides just his acting ability.

And no, I'm not saying every bankable actor is elite.

This is like saying a great basketball player is a great basketball player no matter if he plays in the NBA, D-League or the WNBA. Feature films are the NBA of acting, it attracts the best writers, the best directors, the best EPs, etc. Being a fantastic TV actor doesnt mean you can star and carry an entire feature film. Cranston is a perfect example, great TV actor but will never be a leading feature film actor. The best actors in history have always been elite feature film actors.

You obviously chose to ignore my previous post. I'm not saying good actors are in films. They are a number of respectable actors that are involved in films. But just because you've never done a film doesn't mean you're not an elite actor. And your notion that feature films attract the best writers , best directors, etc doesn't mean the film will be good. There are a number of disgraceful films out there and I believe someone has even made a thread on this forum about how television has become much better then films recently since Hollywood seems to want repeat, rehash and reboot fucking everything.

Once again you will notice that alot of top actors begin at theatre or go through theatre to hone their craft. They don't stay their because it doesn't make as much money for them but it is a far more respected medium. From your notion of Elite actors leading feature films you're basically saying the following actors are at Elite level:

Sarah Jessica Parker

Adam Sandler

Jason Statham

Owen Wilson

Arnold Schwarznegger

Sylvester Stallone

Val Kilmer

Van Damme

Chuck Norris

Steven Seagal

Tyrese

Ja Rule

Keanu Reeves

I think you get the point...

That's Not What I'm Saying At All..What I'm Saying Is That He Doesn't Have A Body Of Work Big Enough To Consider Him Elite...One Excellent Role Doesn't Qualify As A Large Body of Work...Fuck Outta With That Horse Faced Bitch

Film is only "elite" because of the money involved and the exposure. You've got great writers and horrible writers. And some of the top writers/directors also work in television. They co-mingle all the time. If it was elite as far as acting ability then Keanu Reeves would be out of a job. I can't remember the last time Keanu did television, but he continues to suck in the majority of his films. And yet by rage's reasoning, Bryan Cranston may just miraculously lose his acting ability because he's not on tv.

The venue doesn't matter. Al Pacino did S1mone, a flop. He's still a great actor in a bad movie. He also did the made for tv Jack Kevorkian story which he won an award for. So there's a pattern. Even though the format changes, he's still a great actor.

Oh and btw, Bryan is co-starring with Ben Affleck in Argo. It comes out later this year...that movie looks like it's gonna be one of the highlights of 2012. Affleck is a beast at writing/directing! I'm excited! Loved The Town and Gone Baby Gone.

God I hate this forum!

I'm not saying JUST because you do feature films that makes you ELITE. What I am saying is that if you AREN'T the leading Actor in GREAT FILMS, you cannot and should not be considered elite. Look at every single thread where people are asked their fave actor or best actor. Eneivatbly you get the BobbyDs, Pacino, Olivier, Clooney, Grant, Brando, Dicaprio etc. Again feature films are the NBA are there shitty and unworthy NBA players...just as there are wack and horrible plays and TV shows. But in order to be considered ELITE you have to have some CLASSIC movies under your belt. You have to have a couple of statues under your arms. Not one person in here could name me the best theater actor of all time cuz nobody gives a fuck. It's irrelevant.

Ed Norton

kevin Spacey

Willem Dafoe

Morgan Freeman

Seth Rogen

Samuel L Jackson

Don Cheadle

Leonardo Dicaprio

Jamie Foxx

Will Smith

Robert Deniro

Al Pacino
