Why is "White" a race - when it doesn't specify any geographic location ?
We consider the White people in America to be of European descent, but I doubt Europeans consider themselves "White". Those options need to be re-thought.
As far as Hispanics choosing "White" - if "Hispanic" isn't a race and it's one of the options, then maybe it pisses them off. That, or they're sellouts.

Some people don't seem to realize that the story is about Hispanic assimilation.
There are white Hispanics (spain and their descendants from S America) but this article is talking about the descendants of the first peoples of the east side of the planet. The brown people who crossed the Bering straight thousands of years ago and some being descendants of the African slave trade

Blacks, whites and mestizos(commonly considered synonymous with Chicanos here, who prefer not to identify as black, white or mixed) make up the majority of it.
Any time you're dealing with a socially constructed concept such as "race" designed to categorize phenotypes for discriminatory purposes, nothing is ever cut and dry.
