Polls coming. Also, god damn those Donkey posters are entitled and demanding. I guess I understand why you put them in their own subforum.

@IcyLiquid @Toddo some forum changes I haven't been able to figure out how to do yet:

R&B & Alternatives should NOT have the Strictly Business subforum.

For The Grown & Sexy SHOULD have both Strictly Business and The Weight Room (which is currently missing) as subforums.

Waiting To Exhale should NOT have the Animania subforum.

From The Cheap Seats should NOT have the Animania subforum.

We also have automated spam control which I haven't turned on yet and I'd like your feedback on this. It seems that the spam filter does a "pretty good" job, but also flags non-spam as spam and then moderators have to go through this too. You can verify a member as a non-spammer so that their posts won't get checked. I'd like to turn this feature on to give it a try, but I understand that it may piss off some members to see their posts not go up right away.

Our last platform had a very annoying habit of lumping posters along with spammers, resulting in constant, random posters needing their posts to be "approved". The feature u just described sounds like a good one, I'm a lil wary due to what I just described, but we can give it a shot.

@sionb55 The different rooms haven't been assigned mods yet, but we can revisit your request...

@TheJamel the day after we came back on-line.

I found 2 spam threads today, I just deleted the topic and there no where to be found. Is that what were supposed to be doing with them?

I think after a few months there needs to be a post count rule

DEFINITELY.

@IcyLiquid @Toddo

This needs to be implemented as soon as possible. I'd recommend posters can't create threads until they have at least 250-300 posts. We've had a history of folks coming through and spamming the hell outta the boards, and not just necessarily spambots.

Well...maybe not right away, given the board's still in its infancy again. But it definitely needs to be implemented within a month's time or so, after folks have gotten used to the new digs and resume posting heavily...

Next time, click Edit Profile, then ban the spammer. You may (not sure if mods get this feature), get the option to "Delete Account", if so, click Yes. If you're NOT given the option to delete their account, just delete the thread itself and ban the account.

^ answer may change, as we're still in a 'work in progress' stage.

First impressions:

This. New. Platform. Setup. Is. Amazing.

Thank you.

Checking in, I saw that the site was back up yesterday, I have to say that it's great to be back and having two programmers on board is a great plus. Welcome IcyLiquid and Toddo.

I'm going to re-read over the current rules as to the mods duties again in this thread...

Points to note directed towards Jay/IcyLiquid and Toddo:

1. If posters discover that they can put a thread in a spam queue if 5 of them group together and flag a thread - this will be abused. I.C. posters generally group together to abuse powers, particularly against mods or posters who they particularly dislike. That said, if we keep this feature quiet for now, it may be a plus… but they're savvy and I'm pretty sure this will be discovered quickly.

2. sionb should be a mod for Strictly Business… he keeps the investments thread going really well.

3. How well does 'banning' work in terms of keeping posters away from the site? Is it simply an IP ban? As posters like ShadyTeam are always bouncing back if it's just the same as the last I.C.

4. Merging of threads is VERY IMPORTANT to mods, particularly The Reason moderators as we have the most obvious thread makers on the Internet who spin-off every thread that they make with little to no orginality.

5. I agree with UPTOWN, I think posters involved in the hacking of the previous board showed little to no community feeling, caused a lot of problems and abused the forum to the upmost. I have little to no respect for people who are willing to detriment another's work. So I think them being unwelcome here is a good message to send out from the powers that be, rather than them being braggadacious and reminding everyone of our darkest period (I feel it very much was our darkest hour).

6. Post count rule is a fantastic idea and I agree with Jay in that the post count rule should be 250-350. ALTHOUGH, is it possible to have the post count set differently for different sub-forums? I have posters in The Essence sub-forum who are solid posters with very few posts. They post ONLY in The Essence which is a slow moving place - traffic wise. 50 posts may take Essence heads a couple of months; 250 posts will therefore take them 10 months, which will discourage them from staying on the board if they have to stay for that long a period before they can make a thread. So if The Essence Heads only needed 50 posts to post a thread, I'd appreciate that (for now).

7. A Heart sign for 'Awesome' really isn't what the I.C. is about.

8. CAN WE GET THE OLD SMILIES BACK?! :tu :@ :OMG: :td etc. Also, what was the one with the red face that gave you the double middle finger? :fu: ? ? ? That one was funny…

9. THANK YOU, the board seems much more free of spam, which will help mods do what we're supposed to do in regulating great topic discussion. Let's hope that we can move forward now and get back to the golden age - with control like we have now and two great additions to the admin team, we're in a position to get hard on these hoes.

10. Let's not take the 'Intellectual conversation' lightly Reason Mods. if we have multiple top ten threads boring the hell out of the front page, then we DO need to act, IMO.

Let me answer some of your points the best I can @RuffDraft. I'm really hoping this won't be a tl:dr.

1. If users start to abuse the spam buttons we can tweak the counts required or make the counts. We can make the count required say 50 and then make mod clicks count as 50. We also track who clicked the buttons so we'll be able to tell you who's doing this stuff. Our general goal is to to try and get the system working well enough to prevent a bit of tom-foolery, but at the end of the day give you guys the tools to step in and take action if people are gaming the system too much.

3. We currently only have IP banning and user banning. We also cookie users so you have a basic way of knowing people that share accounts. There's not really a fool-proof way of banning people that really want to come in and wreck the community, but what we'd love to work towards is something where users that just join earn abilities. So the post count suggestion is right along those lines. People that keep coming back will have to start all over again in order to be able to start topics.

One of things that we are really working towards as a forum is to get a good reputation system in. So we'd really like to base abilities on a reputation score rather than a post count. We can make it so a post count of 150 gives a good reputation, but perhaps other activity does too, like having a lot of posts that people agree with or also give you mods the ability to bump a good poster's reputation up right away. I'm really hoping we can get you mods on board with this because it's something that I think would be great for the community.

4. We have thread splitting and merging. I just left the checkboxes out in the push to get this theme launched. Expect to see some checkboxes in the topic lists.

7. I agree with the heart sign and it's something we should have thought about. That being said we think that reactions are a great part of the community and we can already see on some poster's profiles that some of the good and bad posters are starting to be known through these reactions. We also think the buttons are going to be very important to keeping track of the best content in the forum. We started a thread here to get some suggestions on what reactions to have. We think two good and two bad are a good number.

8. I know smilies are religion on forums. I can probably hunt down your old ones from vBulletin. Maybe others can chime in on this one.

9. Your welcome on the spam front, although I don't want to rest on my laurels yet. The bots will come back once they know you've switched platforms. Just know that managing spam is a very high priority to me and I'm keeping an eye on your forum for this in particular. I'm going to be streamlining the process as much as possible to help you guys out.

Not sure if this only my phone but on the mobile joint, u can only quote the T/S. There isn't a quote option on everyone elses post.

Thanks Toddo, great reply, appreciate it. This setup where we can actually speak to someone directly who can make the changes is like peering into heaven for the first time… that might be a little OTT, but it's certainly something that we as Mod's have always wanted. So props on the interest that you're taking into the community, even if it is as a job, it definitely feels like you do it to your upmost.

Thanks for point number 1, I can imagine that'll solve the problem no-end :tu (thumbs up).

Firstly, 'cookying' users and having a centre point for us to locate the alias's perhaps in a thread here would be fantastic. It would certainly help us to not have to constantly stay on top of things in terms of a who's who, which is difficult for the mod's who mod out of work hours.

Abilities is something I can definitely jump on board with, it's a great idea and something that'll really help the posters who put more time in. What I often find on the board is that the more time-consuming your post, the less likely you are to hear back a response, yet they're posts that gain you 'respect' that you perhaps don't realise. Whilst I don't really care for respect, it is good to know that when passing on hip hop knowledge, it's acknowledged and appreciated. I definitely think the ability to bump a good poster's reputation is a step in the right direction, although clowns will also have their reputation bumped for the same reason - likely more so than the ones who are posting the 'real'.

Yeah, I agree that two good and two bad are definitely good shouts. It'd also be good to get feedback on what emoticons for buttons that users would like… we or rather you could be very clever about this in the same way that The Source has its mics, the I.C. could have it's __________________. Whatever that may be. Although the faces work well, a sarcastic one for disagree with a raised eyebrow for instance, is much more appealing to an I.C. user - like 'Da fuck you talkin' 'bout B?' in I.C. language. *EDIT* But actually, after looking at them more carefully, I think the two positive ones are the only ones that could be improved. A simple thumbs up would perhaps be better than a smiley face. You'll hear 'no homo' a lot on these boards, the least 'womanly' an icon can be, the better for these posters.

I'll check that thread :tu

I think some old school donkey posters may have those saved - even Jay might have them. They really would bring back the glory days for the Veteran posters, when they were taken away it really did send us into a confused state. The glory days of the first VBulletin was very much representative of hip hop. It was gritty, well put together and raw. The emoticons were unlike the other forums at that time and a little more ahead of their time too in terms of the choices of animation; which were very funny to the simple raw old school images. It's similar I guess as to how old school gamers like their 8 bit graphics is how we would like our emoticons. Not all smooth and shiny and MSN like.

Props if other's can chime in on this and thanks for understanding Toddo :tu

Thanks!!! It really is a big help, with the old setup we would spend a few hours a day at times just erradicating spam, which as you can imagine really took the fun out of modding.

Really appreciate your feedback and speedy response :tu

Please make sure we aren't allowing people to "attack" or "expose" anyone either.

this is going to be extremely tough to do in the donkey, as that's pretty much the theme of that sub-forum....

in the past i've only stepped in when a poster sent me a PM, other than that i've let them go at it.....

i figured posting in the dinkey, you pretty much know what to expect.....

Co-sign, but as this is coming from Greg, he gets the nod over Jay, correct?

NOTE: Exposures will come aplenty with the Facebook and Twitter integration, IMO. We're a board that should really take slower steps towards integrating those features in my opinion… I was surprised to see them included as the more naive posters are definitely going to catch themselves offguard with that one…

It's the whole reason that we have screen names on the I.C. Although I'm well aware this is how the whole web is going…
