Yes, which means NYC heard it. But to hear you tell it, no one in NYC heard anything out of the "hick-towns" of cali. Anyway you aren't even from NYC, so your view of what was listened to is based on Doo Wop tapes. If Hammer wasn't on a doo wop tape then no one heard him in ny. So tell me, why did 3rd base diss hammer? How did they even know about him? You act like MTV/BET/The Box weren't a HUGE factor as well. Did Doo Wop have a music video? I don't think so.

I always wondered who Eazy was referring to on Eazy Duz It when he said "Master Rhyme is a toy."

I'm not sure what your point is, but let me clarify my point;

In the 90s (I'd say starting in the 90s, let's use 1990 as a starting point) the channels that rap music traveled through were;

1. The Source Magazine (every city got the same issue)

2. The Arsenio Hall Show (every city got the same episode)

3. Local R&B and Top 40 stations (each city was a lil different)

4. Music videos on MTV and BET (every city got the same episode)

The first Internet file sharing service was Napster in 1999.

But in New York City there were other channels that weren't available in other places. There was a video show called Video Music Box that started in 1984. They played Rap videos. So if you lived in New York you were exposed to rap videos that weren't played on MTV and BET. You'd be exposed to underground New York videos and you'd be less likely to see West Coast or Southern videos. You can call it "East Coast bias" or regionalism or whatever but I'm just telling it like it is. There was also a show called The Box where you could call in and request videos. Record labels in New York would have a staff of 20 people in a room calling and requesting a video over and over again. As a result there were very few West Coast videos (if any at all) that got played on The Box.

Starting in the late 80s/early 90s New York DJs started making mix tapes. The idea of a mixtape or a compilation of new music wasn't a new idea but New York DJs had connections with the rappers themselves and the record labels so they could get exclusives and freestyles that DJs in the other 49 states couldn't get. New York DJs could get songs months before they appeared on any retail format (cassette single, 12" single or CD single).

As a result, Hip Hop fans in New York relied less heavily on MTV, BET and The Source and stayed up to date through Hot 97, mix tapes, Video Music Box and The Box.

When you think about it, it makes more sense to buy a mixtape than buying an album. At any given moment there's at least 10 new albums; Wu tang, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, 2Pac, KRS One, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, A Tribe Called Quest, Big L and Common. Rather than buying all 10 albums, a Hip Hop fan would buy a 90 minute mixtape which contained the best 2 or 3 songs from each album along with 2 or 3 freestyles or exclusive songs that were unreleased. If you buy two or three mix tapes then you've pretty much got all the bases covered. Chances are you'd have the best songs from each album.

I know in Boston I used to hang out with guys from New York and more often than not they'd have a mixtape rather than an actual album. From my recollection, people from Boston would be more likely to buy albums whereas people from New York would be more likely to have mix tapes. Thats how I remember it.

So my point is that if you lived in New York City in particular its entirely possible that you didn't watch videos on BET or MTV. There's people that I can remember seeing in The Source that had perms and Jheri curls but I'd never actually heard their music and judging from the way they looked in the ad, I had no desire to hear their music.

Also, consider that Hip Hop started in New York. A lot of the stuff coming from The West Coast or The South sounded "foreign" in a bad way.

Diddy been around since 92 n it don't matter when he started rapping. , x dropped his debut in 98 after big n pac and whatever tupac came out in 96 it don't matter, he was a weak mind. He went to jail then thought he was tough for catching a sodomy case. Dog pound video got shot up in New York. Hatian jack put pressure on pac n it he couldn't handle it. Tupac snitched on camera numerous times to save his career. If hit em up was so viscous why sidnt make New Yorkers or bigs ppl look at him funny after that? Especially after not responding by name? Bc pac wasn't respected like that which why those two classics in 96 you speak of , in 96 nobody playin that shit everywhere, New York ? Biggie? Was doing shows in sacremento in 96, the times Deathrow made appearances on New York platforms for the east to see , nobody knew them. The fact of the matter is that Pac got physically run out of New York and tried to "Clap Back" through song and dance. He ran his mouth, aligned himself with gangbangers (hustling backwards) crossed the wrong people, made enemies and got himself killed.

All of that shit could have been avoided if he took Biggies advice and stayed away from those grimy dudes that Big told him to stay away from.

As far as the actual beef, New York won and that's absolutely indisputable. The sheer quantity of music that came out of New York made California look like a hick town with one label. The quality is subjective but Death Row only released seven albums in 5 years while New York released HUNDREDS of albums and THOUSANDS of mix tapes and proceeded to shut the game down with Life After Death, Ma$e, Puff Daddy & The Family, Jay-Z, Nas, Mobb Deep, DMX, Ja Rule, and 50 Cent. Out of everybody Pac dissed, besides Chino XL, they all had long successful careers and are still making records (Mobb Deep, Jay Z, Nas).

California looked like Ground Zero when the battle was over.

You make no fuckin sence at all that's why im just about Through with you. God is delusional too but he's a better revisionist than you. You talking about Doo wop tapes that killed the west coast and the West had tracks on those tapes. You only saying New York won because you from there. Biggie yall king was coppin pleas when Pac was kickin his fuckin ball over the fence. All in interviews like "I dont know why Duke is doing this to me!!" The nigga fucked his fuckin wife And threaten to shoot his kids and Biggie still waited till Pac died and then long kiss goodnight surfaceses all of a fuckin sudden!!? Pac was dead as a damn doorknob and Big was so shook he still made it a subliminal just in case Pac rose from the dead or faked his death. Yall King let yall the fuck down and Mobb stood up but they wasn't as mainstream as Pac or Big to be taken serious. Get outta denial about the shit bruh, i'll look online for a support Group for you but you guys took an L and thank your lucky stars Pac got shot and killed and Suge Fucked everything up from within as well as went to prison because that's the only thing that truely stopped the West, Not you guy's rappers with there shinny suits and sean john piss in a bottle cologne, DEAL WITH IT!!

What do you mean by hiding and taking high roads?

I mean mother fucker was suppose to be the best rapper on the face of the earth and as soon as Pac sonned him he was letting Puff hold him back from responding. What would you do if a nigga down the street not only fucked your wife but threaten to shoot your kids if they came down there? Would you wait 6 months for somebody else to do something to them or would you do something right then because you suppose to be the man? Biggie shoulda been in the studio right after hearing it since he the "better rapper" suppositely and a scathing diss that would make the world laugh at hit em up given how personal Pac made the battle shoulda been to all the DJ's within no later than 2 weeks. Did you watch the Notorious movie? I mean why am I even explaining this? Niggas was shook and catching heat after Pac declared war on cats. Shit got serious. Biggie almost had to bow down to E 40 or get his ass shot down in Oakland. It was nothing but smiles and respectfulness from the nigga till he did get shot in LA.
