It's just garbage," Rapaport continues. "This is Hip Hop. It's not Techno. It's not Electro. It's gotta...You have to keep that boom-bap spirit. It has to be there. There has to be a balance between growth and keeping it grounded. I don't know. It's challenging. I always feel like I wish I could rhyme. I could be like the emcee coach. Hip Hop Phil Jackson. I would be like, 'Yo, that shit is wack. Don't do that.'"

Fuck all that ... boombap shit. I'm black, as long as there's drums I'm straight.

"the dumb are intrigued buy the drum, blah blah blah wah wah wah"

Famous last words.

I bet u brothas said the same thing bout Rock N Roll back in the day....now white people fucked up rock so much, the average black or white kid probably dont even realize black folks started it.

Jazz is still around...shit ain't dead, it just ain't mainstream. I don't know if there's anyone that's as standout or recognizable as Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, or Miles Davis but music as a whole doesn't generally have artists that are as standout or recognizable as past artists.

I think Wynton Marsalis falls in that recognizable category. Only person I can think of in this era tho.

Rapaport's comments don't really move me. People were in an uproar when Nas said Hip-Hop was dead. Now Rapaport getting attention for pretty much cosigning what's already been a subject of concern.

If yall older niggaz actually supported your favorite artists just a little more instead of just get online and make sure us younginz kno our history and if yall stop trying to suppress anybody "on the rise" (at whatever level) then yall would get what yall want.

He's saying the same thing I've been saying and I think its gone over a lot of yall heads. If all yall OGz talk about is BDP and how good they are and in the same breath try to assassinate Rick Ross' greatness then after a while it effects the learning process and music appreciation for those that are hungry/curious for the knowledge and the great music out there.

Wynton and Branford Marsalis are GOATs of Jazz and have been holding down the tradition since the 80s.

I saw Branford perform once. But Jazz is pretty much the opposite of pop. For example, he didn't play anything I recognized and I listen to a fair amount of Jazz.

I agree with him for the most part especially the part about balance. I've always felt like hip hop is very much like jazz but back in the jazz era, all of it's parts and different styles were represented and celebrated. Not so much with hip hop especially in terms of region.
