Ja rule on One Blood remix

someone voted wack for this post. I was a senior in high school when Game's One Blood came out in '06. a shitload of artists were on the remix. Ja happened to be the last one to spit and people were gassing up his verse like it was gonna resurrect his post-murda inc career or something.

remember when hipsters were really into odd future

I had a white hipster pull his phone out at a party to show me a Tyler the Creator video where he's eating bugs or some shock value shit and tell me enthusiastically "FINALLY, a rapper with some substance"

Schoolboy Qs last album was overhyped. Niggas was calling it AOTY, and a "good" album. Shit was meh at best compared to "H&C". Shit was a disappointment like Ab Souls second effort the same year but the hype had people overlooking that.

People weren't being honest with constructive criticism cuz they WANTED it to be great after hearing "Man of the Year".

Shit I fucked with YGs shit more than Schoolboy Qs that year, and I like Schoolboy Q more.

You might be wrong i remember a lot of people saying that album was average...like the overwhelming majority. I disagreed i thought it was dope

And as far as Saigon goes. His debut was GREAT. But the album to follow i bought... Played it once and never again. His rise & fall was fast & real

why go into a lupe thread when we can bring it to you buddy....

Lupe Fiasco is the most talented lyricist I've ever heard, and would feel confident with my money on him verse for verse against anybody dead or alive. But that's a matter of preference.

Saigon's struggle with Atlantic killed his career. That album had been done for a couple years, but they couldn't get it released and it killed his buzz. By the time it dropped, people wanted to hear it, but the time had already passed where people were clamoring for it. Had it dropped when it was supposed to(during the ringtone bubblegum era) it would have been a breath of fresh air. He lost all his momentum though.

man this thread is hilarious.

i remember when people thought Game was going to be the SAVIOR of the West Coast and the future. i always hated that niggas music. ALWAYS.

i was definitely on the Papoose hype train. Charades? Chess? Alphabetical Slaughter? Dude had concept records for DAYS in a time where snap music was the wave. He was hip hops only hope for a short period of time. Then he dropped 299239239 mixtapes.

and @_Lefty is completely dead on about Lupe & Saigon. Greatest Story Never Told is an AMAZING project. It just came out wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy after people cared. Most moved on.

Kdot has a certified classic in gkmc so he has actually lives up to his hype but I agree he has been lackluster since the control vs. Tpab is forgetable. Still listen to section 80 and gkmc on road trips to this day.

I remember when fifty came out and all those mixtape were hitting, then g unitwould be all on the radio giving freestyles and everyone shouting out free yayo. I remember the bet awards like 03 it seemed fifty performed a million times....the shit was crazy. I never seen shit like it

Cassidy - right around the time Jay-Z retired and NY didn't have many to take his place, niggas was saying Cassidy was the future and that on the mic no one could stop him. Welp that came to an end when he got hemmed up. His debut album even went gold.

Drake - when he first came out with So Far Gone (to this day I still haven't heard the album in full), upon the release of TML niggas was tryna say his coming was that of a young 50 Cent circa 2003 SMMFH. I never thought he woulda been around this long. I remember there were threads and polls with niggas arguing going back and forth of what Drake would sell. Now Drake is the most hated on next to Jay-Z, Kanye West, 50 Cent on the IC.

Cosign on Saigon - Niggas were repping it like it was going to save NY,

Lil Wayne - Around 2008/2009 he could do no wrong he was killing the mixtapes had threads in his honour, etc. Soon as he sold a mil in the first week and dropped A Millie it was as if the IC got turned upside down.

To Drake's defense, he is one of the hottest rappers out and has been for the past 5 years. Not saying I like him, but he does have a strong fan base.

I bought his Take Care album and I wasn't feeling it at all. But somebody out there likes him.

Its not like he flopped like Papoose or Saigon.

I remember when Jin had next. He won on Freestyle Fridays for a few weeks in a row and then he had a song produced by Kanye West, I actually bought the 12" single. Then you never really heard from him again.

I also bought a record by Bump J. Not sure who he is/was but it was also produced by Kanye West. Then I heard he went to prison.

When Ross was the second coming of biggie. It was ine dude that use to be on here that was hyping the shit out of that. Could of been some more minions but his stood out the most cus he was really believing the hype

i ask people why they like kendrick and they say because he's different. i say he suppose to be and they kanye shrug.
