Memories of hip hop fans getting caught in the hype

Schoolboy Qs last album was overhyped. Niggas was calling it AOTY, and a "good" album. Shit was meh at best compared to "H&C". Shit was a disappointment like Ab Souls second effort the same year but the hype had people overlooking that.

People weren't being honest with constructive criticism cuz they WANTED it to be great after hearing "Man of the Year".

Shit I fucked with YGs shit more than Schoolboy Qs that year, and I like Schoolboy Q more.

oh and Ma$e and Shyne's comebacks!! Soooooo fucking overrated. I remember people thinking Shyne was about to take over.

"Its like new york's being soft

Ever since my nigga shyne's been sitting in prison, yeah"

I remember when shyne was locked up and def jam paid an absurd signing bonus for him, and everyone was saying exactly what you saying.

I think this was after fifty exploded or right around that time, and everyone was saying how "if fifty blew up, just wait until shyne gets going!!! He's gonna be the biggest star ever"

I was so confused, I thought there might be another shyne. I said is this the same shyne that did the d.o.c song that y'all talking about?

One word. Two syllables.

Papoose. Pa-poose.

Sai-gon.

I remember coming to this site and The Reason was page after page of "OMFG! Papoose the future! Saigon the future! NYC got it on lock!"

Hell, when ASAP first came to the forefront, everybody lost their shit about them. Hell, an easier thread would've been about when don't Hip Hop fans lose their shit over a new artist and get caught in the hype.

Asap been around for five years tho and he pretty dope.

But saigon and papoose and asher....

And the funny thing is some ppl (they scared to admit it) still think papoose or saigon gonna save hip hop if they just have "one big hit."

Just before " the 18th letter" came out. Niggas couldn't wait for the God's triumphant return. MTV doing specials and shit...........

Every NYC rapper with a hit since '05. As a native New Yorker I can attest to the hype that dudes place on these subpar rappers with a hot track or a popping mixtape, smh.

And how could I forget Jadakiss in '01. Jada's fans had him right up there behind Pac and Big, smh. Even Jada bought into that shit and started running with that top 5 DOA shit, smh.

Damn shame Saigon Debut is near classic it got no burn I knew he never was gonna be that guy to make it, so many dope jewels/records/concepts on that album to be slept on is a travesty considering the garbage that gets burn and praise.
